ParappaTheDapper -> Do you Google things you don't know? Do you like to learn?? (4/28/2011 3:54:15 PM)

I was watching Gilmore Girls and eating some yummy noodles with a friend of mine the other night and she confessed that even though Gilmore Girls is her favorite show, she often "doesn't get" the cultural/literary allusions. I said "Jesus, lady, don't you have any intellectual curiosity? I mean you have a smart phone constantly at your side! If there is something you don't know mentioned in your all time favorite show you should look it up and learn something new!"

In this day and age are you really content to just not know stuff or is your appetite for knowledge as insatiable as mine????

No, if I don't understand something I go on an unrelated forum and post a topic asking them, so that someone else can google it for me. It's basic internet protocol.

That's a good idea and an awesome way to make new friends!

It depends on the topic and whether or not I'm conversing with someone or doing something passive like watching television.  If I'm watching TV, I probably won't look it up because I don't want to spend time on reasearch when I'm trying to enjoy the show.  If it's something that really piques my curiosity, I might look it up later.

If I'm conversing with someone, then it depends on whether I need to know in order to continue or if the conversation would be better served by asking questions of the person with whom I'm communicating.  Sometimes, it's better to let the other person tell me about a topic as a means of drawing that person out and encouraging further conversation.

I type into the search bar, "Stupid topic" then hit "I'm Feeling Lucky" which brings me here.

Just kidding. =)

Don't forget to add a super long, run-on title that cuts off in the middle of the question.

Let's watch some Jersey Shore and then have sodas with little umbrellas in them.

If I'm talking to somebody and they say something I don't understand I like to say loudly and firmly "Hang on. I am Googling what you just said!" It lets them know I am interested, and also discourages them from saying things I might not understand in the future. When I talk to clever people, I like to drag them kicking and screaming down to my level of facile pop culture references and conversations about pizza toppings.

Did you hear the story about how Snooki got her Gucci handbag? Someone at Coach got embarrassed that she always had a Coach bag so they sent her a crate of Gucci bags because they didn't want Coach to be diluted by association. True story! Hand to God!

See, I would have Googled that if you did not provide the link because I did not know that.

Topic success.

I am one of those people who gets unbridled pleasure from learning new things. If I become a fan of a show, I am likely to read all kinds of things about it.

I am constantly googling stuff, and I am insatiably curious. I have become used to being around people that are not like me, because most aren't

LadyPact -> RE: Do you Google things you don't know? Do you like to learn?? (4/28/2011 5:38:13 PM)

I tend to be curious about all kinds of things, but I'm more likely to ask a person than go to google.

littlewonder -> RE: Do you Google things you don't know? Do you like to learn?? (4/28/2011 5:58:30 PM)

some things yes
other things no

just depends on how I heard it and the context it was used.

There are some things which I have zero interest in learning about

I can thank my Dad for this one. As a child I never got an answer other than look it up (dictionary or encyclopedia back then). I love looking up and learning new things.

I always look things up if I don't know something. I did that even back when there was no Google.

But I also wonder about those who seem content in not knowing something. About 10 years ago, I was talking with an acquaintance at work, and she mentioned that she met a guy from the Ukraine, but she said never heard of the Ukraine and was wondering what it was. She said she called six of her friends, and none of them heard of it or knew where it was either. I was flabbergasted. How can anyone not know about these things? Apparently, no one had an atlas or a World Almanac or anything.

NuevaVida -> RE: Do you Google things you don't know? Do you like to learn?? (4/28/2011 9:17:04 PM)

I'm always Googling stuff.  The Mister and his girl-child always laugh and say "Hey I know, why don't you Google that?" as they see me reaching for my phone when I'm not sure about something.

I'm a Googler.
