ORIGINAL: kalikshama Hi Lucy, My background - not dissing surgery for you: I have fibroids and heavy bleeding. Since fibroids shrink post-menopause, I'm trying to avoid surgery, although menopause could be a long way off. Last month I followed every suggestion in Christiane Northrup's "Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom," and had a relatively good period. Since there were a LOT of suggestions, this month I am doing less to try to narrow down what works. Dr. Northrup has been very useful to be over the years - I recommend you get her books from the library and see if there is anything that will work for you. WBWW does have a hysterectomy chapter but I've just moved and can't lay my hands on it. Her menopause books might have more. For HRT, you can try bio-identical hormones rather than synthetic. The natural progesterone Prometrium worked great for me but the damn VA won't prescribe it and either the generic I get online doesn't work as well or perhaps things are just getting worse as I get older. Emerita also make progesterone and estrogen creams - the progesterone cream does not seem to be as strong as Prometrium. http://www.amazon.com/Emerita-Pro-Gest-Natural-Progesterone-Paraben-Free/dp/B000IMQE5U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1307997540&sr=8-1 I find castor oil packs very soothing. I don't use as much oil as recommended - I don't use enough so that I make a mess. I've reused the flannel forever rather than throwing it out. Then I put a red multi purpose hot water bottle on top of my uterus and fall asleep like that. Guidelines are to leave it on for an hour, preferably meditating. I just read (and fall asleep.) Using a hot water bottle, with or without the castor oil, might be soothing for you post surgery. Best wishes for your surgery and recovery, KK PS - DAMN OB for taking the Ultra off the market! That's what inspired me to go all out to try to reduce bleeding last month. Hey Kali:) Right now the hysterectomy is secondary to a growing mass(grown 3 inches since my OP which is a bit of a pisser) between my bowel and uterus (plus fibroids and cysts, in uteri and ovarian) I feel like im eight months pregnant, pressure wise. However, I am defintely looking into the book you suggested. I wish you good luck with your issues you have my sympathy and thanks for sharing Many hugs to you RON you ol reprobate, I already know them:) but I adore you for posting, big kiss on the cheek Im going down to my pet for along recovery in august, so I have somethin wonderful to look forward to :)
