GreedyTop -> RE: Do you actually rather like men? (5/8/2011 11:28:57 PM)

*started to type something, realized the Mods already have too much work, decided against it...but DAMN it woulda been good (in a gold letter kinda earning way)*

Awareness -> RE: Do you actually rather like men? (5/9/2011 12:04:57 AM)

Shhh Greedster, the heavy hitters will be along shortly and they'll phrase their shit in a way which just scrapes along the border of mod intervention.  You might wanna ask them for some advice and then give it your best shot.  *grin*

Oh, and just for the effort, I'll award you a gold letter anyway.  Which letter would you prefer?

I don't know how I didn't see this first time round . . . .

So . . . what can you do, electronics-wise, LP? I'm just interested, that's all. :-)

I think you might be a bit surprised.  I've been a machine operator a few times as an occupation.  Thermoformers roughly the size of a bus.  Any electrical problem with them or the supportive equipment, I got to fix.  Believe or not, I've worked in a garage at one point as well.  Mostly preventative maintenance (oil changes, coolant flush, etc) but that's exactly why I don't want to do My own.

Fackenell! Well, well, LP! *I* don't even know what a 'thermoformer' is!

VaguelyCurious -> RE: Do you actually rather like men? (5/9/2011 1:53:03 AM)

I do! [:D]

LadyPact -> RE: Do you actually rather like men? (5/9/2011 1:56:08 AM)

Most people don't, hon. It's basically what it sounds like it is.  It's a piece of production equipment that uses heat to form plastics (and other materials) into certain shapes and then cut out from the sheet.  Just about any container that is used for packaged food (like the roasted chicken sold in stores that have become so popular here) is made that way.  Foam plates are the same.

It wasn't pretty and it wasn't glamorous, but I made more money doing that than working in HR.

It's not.  They're women.  Humour is not their forte.  The thread is a kind of whiny passive-aggressive thing which ultimately turned out to be a vehicle for demonstrating how mercenary they are.  Apparently they like men because they're useful.  Character traits are irrelevant.  I'm somewhat amused by the irony.

Jeez.

VC clearly started the thread in reaction to the two threads which gave licence to everyone to bash submales and Doms. I haven't seen 'whiny passive-aggressiveness'. Nor have I seen women being 'mercenary'. I've seen women saying, basically, that they like the kindness of men, amongst other things. And I've seen a thread started out of simple, light good-naturedness go sour, as per usual here at CM. What a waste.

Yup, I can believe that last. I've made more at building than lecturing. I had a vague idea that a thermoformer did something like that. A bit like terraforming on Star Trek (turning non-habitable planets habitable), though a bit less ambitious.

Get this: you know I have a sewing machine and can actually adjust dresses? Do I win multiple cookies for that, or what?

LadyPact -> RE: Do you actually rather like men? (5/9/2011 2:15:26 AM)

Well obviously. Men as a whole don't have character traits, individuals do, but individual men are not the topic of discussion.

If it helps, I don't find men very useful at all. Well sometimes they're useful to distract crazy bisexuals who were trying to throw themselves at me, but that's only worked once. Most of the time they just get in the way and spoil the view with their hairy man chests.

Well obviously. Men as a whole don't have character traits, individuals do,
So you're saying women relate to men as a whole, not to individuals.  Handy to know.

Really?  So you're saying the original topic was about men as some kind of homogenous, amorphous whole instead of how women relate to them individually.  So the question is more about what do women like about mankind rather than individual men, is it?  Because, of course, individual men aren't the slightest bit relevant to a woman's experience of men in general, are they.

It's at this point, I remember how illogical women are and why I dismiss an awful lot of what they say.

Big surprise.  I bet you think you're the first lesbian to say as much.  You need to get out more.

For one thing, they can reach those pesky high shelves. I'm half an inch below average female height so I'm pretty standard for a woman, but men still come in particularly handy in bookshops and libraries.

I'm 5'11", I can reach my own high shelves.

However, I do like men. Some more than others.

Why? Well, they're men! They have those qualities of masculinity that differentiate them from women. Being hopelessly hererosexual, I'm hormonally disposed to finding men attractive, although the more simeon football yob types don't do anything for me.

This is why I'm not really interested in forced fem, crossdressers, etc. I like men for being men. I sometimes hate men for being men, but those are those other men. You know, the bastards.

The good ones feel good when you hold each other. They smell nice too. I've never been able to develop a close meaningful relationship with plastic.

Hint to guys: Most aftershave sucks. It covers up all those nice pheremones.

As has been mentioned previously, men have their uses. A big BIG thing for me is a man who is intuitive and can read when his girl is distressed, happy, sad etc.

So you love a man who can read your mind.  [8|]

Its not so much that he can read my mind, but that he knows when to go into comfort mode, instead of staying in Dom mode, and be a shoulder to cry on, an ear to listen etc.

Duh - of course it was. Just like the contempt threads were about submissive/dominant men as some kind of homogeneous, amorphous whole. If I'd talked about the specific men in my life the OP would have looked very very different*.

*not that the men in my life aren't taller than me, sexy-smelling and warm, just that those aren't the things I value most about them. But the things about them that I value the most are to do with them being them, not them being male.

I was hoping LP had developed a cold fusion reactor to power her home! When I saw thermoformer I thought it was a device that transformed or converted heat to power. [:D]

I'm staying away from Awareness's contentions one cause I value my life [;)] but just to say that I posted a message that I thought was mostly a joke (straight men dying younger etc.) and clearly signified as such only to get a fairly angry reply. I made the point about the thread title and how some women responded because there is a very commonly expressed hostility toward men. Its everywhere - even quite often in adverts where surely alienating 50% of your customers would be a bad thing! I believe its a symptom of hate.

That's true. I've had complaints from NASA that you can't see the Great Wall of China from outer space when I'm standing on it.

*Sigh* Not that I have a hairy chest, mind. Before VC steps in with her usual diligence on the matter.

Hon, if someone's determined to see you as a sexist, a man-hater, a whatever . . . there's almost feck all you can do about it. People have prejudices, and prejudices about what they see as other people's prejudices, they hold onto them with grim tenacity forever, and that's just that.
