I'm not religious so no worries.

This.

I think most religious people are so used to living a hypocritical life, adding a few more points of contention is likely not a problem.

Not religious...have searched since my early teens, questions with the religion I was brought up in since grade school, come on, if it doesn't hold up to the rationality and imagination of a six year old there is a problem.

My life has been a path of discovery, questioning, sometimes regrets but always been a journey.

Do I do anything which pushes the paradigms of my own moral or ethical beliefs, no...so again no conflict.

Besides sexuality has been seen as spiritual or at least spiritually symbolic for thousands of years...

Easy. The catholic church would have you know that we're all sinners. So, just have one, big, gigantic sinathon incorporating every possible depravity with which a human being can cope.

(LaT)

And:

I'm more spiritual than religious, and lean toward wicca/pagan, so it's not an issue for me.

I admit I sinned before marriage but I did marry the man who I lost my virginity to so by the church's standards I was still ok since he married me.

But did you find it?

Not yet. I think it's hiding somewhere with my mind.

Like the song goes "So be good for goodness sake"

Seriously, I am trying to figure out where there needs to be an imbalance in the simplistic picture presented in your original post. If you have a voice in your head saying something is wrong, then maybe the lifestyle is just not your thing. Many wander into this form of expression for the wrong reasons, many for the right reasons. And I have seen some folks who (in good conscience, mind you) begin questioning the morality of what they are doing/thinking.
Perhaps you should approach it the way most gay people approach their lifestyle. They take it for granted for the most part these days and view themselves as having been created that way and therefore just as entitled to God's favor as the next. I am sure if most 'religious people' looked at it that way, they wouldn't have to balance much, if anything.
Personally, based on my concept of 'God', I'm not really that concerned with what some Greylien who screwed with the gene pool here eons ago and then left us like some guy who runs off with his secretary[:D] thinks about what I am doing? Why? Cause more than likely, he's dead.
I was raised a catholic, and apart from some pretty sordid fantasies I eventually need to indulge, I am done with theocracy altogether.
Learned years ago while touring with the Dead that you can practice the golden rule without ever thinking of religion. That's one of the best things about being alive in this day and age.
Peace,
Skipp

I've never found them to not be balanced. I'm a christian with old fashioned values as man as head of the household and the Godhead of the family so they seem to balance quite nicely for me.

I totally get that as that goes hand in hand with your beliefs. I guess Im looking for the HINdu guy with the foot fetish or the submissive muslim man or even the dominant afghani woman. Ok upon my proofread maybe thats a bit over the top.

Not as bizarre as you might think. Actually met a Hindu, poly, sadist truely was a wolf in sheeps clothing...and I'm still paying the guard dogs it took to run him off. I've met some deep dark sadistic dominants that were fun to hang with compaired to this guy.
The simple answer is there are deeply religious people that enjoy kink, there are not so religious people that enjoy kink, there are also those that just enjoy hurting people and try to call it religion and/or kink.
Religion, kink and moral make up in my opinion are VERY VERY different things. I was raised much like littlewonder that man is the head and final say in all things...that doesn't fly in my house as an adult. My kink is much more obvious and out there than how I lead my daily life, meaning people suspect but few know for sure. Balance is what you make it.
If you're a good people do good things and sexual partners pleasure is a priority type person you'd probably have a large number of people agree. If you tell them your partners sexual pleasure involves restraints, impliments and smacking noises that may or may not eventually include skin on skin contact, you might have some people that look at you a little differently :) YMMV

They already did that...most people called it catholic school

bart41 -> RE: HOw do you balance the lifestyle and religious beliefs? (5/11/2011 2:23:34 PM)

I don't have any imaginary friends so its not a problem for me.

aromanholiday -> RE: HOw do you balance the lifestyle and religious beliefs? (5/11/2011 4:46:06 PM)

I am not religious but I feel a need to worship. So I've always worshipped my dominants. (I take care, of course, not to get involved with a dominant who is not comfortable with this.) I have no specific formalisms or demands, the worship is just an attitude I feel. It's palpable, but I do not shove it into someone's face. It would greatly surprise and thrill me if I met a dominant someday who was as into this as I was, and even had those formalisms and demands that I won't impose or even suggest for fear of stepping on toes, religion being the sensitive subject that it is.
