The only thing i would have to say to the medications are evil thing is please everyone read up on your medications. Find out what side effects they have. Do comparisons on them to see if you have possible interactions. Drugs.com offers a lot of information in easy to read format and if i recall, they also have a way for you to check to see if your medications have any possible interactions with each other. I never take a pill from the doctor or anything else, until i have read up on what side effects this medicine has because i've almost died from taking meds i was allergic to before and almost had a deadly interaction the doctor missed when prescribing me that medication with another i was taking. If i hadn't checked it out first, i could have ended up dead.. or worse.

You can also call your pharmacists to check on interactions and such. If they are good, they will be able to help you understand the meds you are taking, and pretty much why the interaction is bad etc.

this is true, but with so many pharmacies being chains nowadays and the small town pharmacist virtually non-existent in most parts of the country, i have found it safer for me to check online because people do make mistakes and alot of times don't have the time to double check everything.

That's why i use this as my source for helping me keep track of what medications might interact and how. You'd be surprised at how many interactions i've found using that that my doctor and pharmacist both missed. Drug Interaction Checker

So hello again everyone! Obviously, I'm still kicking and I don't mean the bucket, hee hee. They have discovered that I have Acute Tubular Necrosis. The good news is that it does heal itself. They are talking about sending me home tomorrow (Sunday, May 15th for those not in my part of the world), however, I'm going to ask them to hold me over until Monday. They always tell you to go home and rest, lol. I'm being evicted and so "rest" isn't really on the agenda since I'm in the middle of moving. I also live alone, so I would like that creatine number to be closer to normal. Currently it is at 8 point something, normal is -.25 to 1.25 soooo...in my mind the better the number, the less rest I'll need.

Anyway, I'm not feeling anywhere near as terrified as I was at the phrase "kidney failure" which is really good. I guess a lot of people have kidney function of 10% and live to tell the tale.

ETA: My local pharmacy is THE best. It is everything you would ever want in a "small town" pharmacist. They know I don't drive so they do their best to make sure all my scrips are ready when my ride needs to leave. They know my name and I know theirs, us asking each other about silly, mundane things that people in small towns talk to each other about. So some may prefer to be nameless faceless people, but I will stick to my "small town" where everyone knows a little bit about each other they probably shouldn't. Makes life more interesting, fufilling and infinately more satisfying.

I use the old time pharmacy as well. They know me as the purple lady because I wear purple shirts. I go to them about 3 or 4 times a month (I really need to reduce that down to 2 or 3).

I am glad that you are getting better. I hope you can swing the extra day. I know how the creatine levels are important to healing

Just an update for anyone interested....

Out of the hospital (for now). It took me nearly 2 years to get my blood sugar under control after the diabetes diagnosis. Of course, stress, other health issues and major pain didn't help. All will make getting blood sugar under control more difficult.

Eating for kidney failure is daunting at best. You think it is good for you? Probably not. Orange juice, oranges, bad for kidneys, ok in moderation in controlled diabetic. Tomatoes? Nope. Fresh Jersey tomatoes are so good, just slice and eat, right? Nope, gotta stay away. Broccoli, brussel sprouts, nope. Raisin Bran is now not a great idea! Essentially, I have figured out that if it is tasteless, bland and boring, it's what I should be eating, lol. Except for other fruits, which is great. Blueberries which I love, fresh pineapple, strawberries, watermelon, are all ok. In the hospital, I was eating lots of fruit for breakfast lunch and dinner, and enjoying every bit. They had some really great fresh fruit and kept asking me if I was getting bored with it. Since those are all the more expensive fruits and harder for me to afford, I wanted all they would give me. I can eat 2 pints a blueberries a day, if it weren't for the fact that right now they are 6 bucks a pint unless I find a sale. Hopefully, with so much coming in season, they prices will go down.

Now, I pay so much attention to my urination habits it is almost neurotic. The potassium overload is another big scare. It can cause serious heart issues, so every chest pain is like, OMG, did I have too much potassium? Is it anxiety? Simply indigestion? Hopefully the next major health issue will not come or not have so much complications attached, lol.

I still need to get a follow up appointment with my doctor to find out what to do about my blood sugar, blood pressure, cholesterol, fibromyalgia, pain management and anxiety. The metformin (diabetes med for those who don't know) and lisonpril (blood pressure) are actually known for causing these problems. With a little luck, all that will be figured out within the next couple of weeks.

Thanks for everyone for the well wishes and prayers and ideas. Any ideas for making food worth eating would still be appreciated, and I need all the prayers I can get before body parts start falling off, lol.

Sorry to hear that

I only know two previous colleagues where one had received a transplant and another one who donated one of his kidneys to his eldest son, thank god both of them are doing fine now.

I can't offer any personal advice in that respect.

What I would be doing, if I would be in your situation, I would look up if there are (for the time being) any internet support groups in regards to renal problems...they sometimes offer great experiences and views.
