benjamin34 -> Question to all: Dom and Subs (10/10/2004 12:14:17 PM)

I have studied for a long time now on what it takes to be a Dom, and now I know Im ready to get started: any suggestions on the best route to take

Well Benjamin, you're in the right place at least. I am new to this site, but have found it a wonderful place to meet, greet and continue growing in my own right. As for knowing that you are ready to get started... that you only know for sure when a submissive kneels before you and offers her submission to you. By then you will hopefully be ready, at least in their eyes.

Good Luck in all things,
Daddy Russ

My first suggestion would be to put something in your profile about yourself--your interests and desires, what you are looking for in a sub, etc. If you start with an experienced sub she can help you by "topping from the bottom"

It might be helpful to find a mentor:

mentoring

This may also help you:

how do you become experienced

I'd find the local scene to you. Start out by going to munches. Network with like minded people.
Go to a party or two. Get to know people. If you're unsure of anything be honest about it. The host of the munch or party surely will help you if they know this.
Aside from that you never know who you may meet at a munch.

Open your mind, and learn, observe, ask questions, understand what you want out of this, be sure of yourself.
The mentor suggestion is a good one, but take the time to learn the trade, not just the tricks of the trade.
Be honorable, make your sub proud to serve.

I have also found that being a member of various BDSM discussion groups will open doors for your understanding as well. It is from the various listserves that I belong to that I gain additional knowledge and there is always someone willing to share information, activity etc.

I also will not limit myself to my geographical location.

Enjoy!

Getting involved in the local scene by attending munches. Going to workshops to learn how to use various tools. i think mentors are wonderful also. i would also read and ask questions as much as possible.

The local scene is your best route. Now comes the problem... HOW do you find the local scene. (oh boy.. I just looked where you were from.. Eugene. Eeeks! One of my worst driving experiences was in Eugene. Don't you folks believe in street signs? And how about NORTH and SOUTH on freeway signs.. but I digress) I did a quick look around to see what was out there in the way of munches in your area.. I found http://groups.yahoo.com/group/oregonsexcontactbdsm/ You may want to join them and see if they have something in their links area. The other thing I found was this:

"Eugene Munch: munch group meeting every Monday at McMenamins North Bank Restaurant at 6pm - We meet in the back room, which is back and slightly to the left as you come through the restaurant from the front door. We usually have a black balloon on a table. If not, just ask someone "is this the munch?" - This is a social rather than a play event; come and ask questions, meet local players, and generally make contact. We also have an open house every Tuesday from 8PM on (write for directions if interested), a play party on the first Saturday of each month, and a Fetish Night at Diablo's (Pearl St next to the Greyhound station) downtown on the last Sunday of every other month. All these are open events. Email Conrad at [email protected] for information"

I hope one of those helps you to get started. The first step is a big one, but it is well worth it. Welcome to the Wonderful World of Dominance.
