Since I opted out of children and only cook when I'm in the mood, I am feeling now really glad that I'm with a guy who doesn't just see me as the carrier of his offspring and maker of his meals.

Master will get drives to cook just like he does to blacksmith.

Status: offline 		Cooking is a visceral and a primordial art. It is the only one that we need to live, the only one that physically becomes part of us. Eating well makes people happy like nothing else does. Furthermore, the habit of eating together and sharing food is what gave rise to human civilization. Cooking is one of the things that makes us human. Anyway, that's my little romantic snippet for the day.

I disagree here, I'd say people who have a green thumb are possibly more needed, I mean what are you going to cook without somebody being able to grow it?

Status: offline 		I cooked in the past because I had a child at home to raise alone. Had no other choice but to cook.

Now, I cook because it's just me at home and I only cook something quick usually because of that reason. I don't make actual meals anymore like I used to. It would just go to waste and I just can't see cooking for just me only for me to have to throw it out.

i would pick meat.

Both of my parents worked full time when I was growing up, so us kids did a lot of the cooking. Mom would get things ready and leave them in the fridge, instructions on the table, and it was our butts if dinner wasn't in the oven when she got home.

My Dad was the main chef on weekends, unless Mom really wanted to try a new recipe or us kids were pestering for a favorite, and he was the one who actually taught us to cook. We had a family heirloom cookbook, and my sister and I took turns picking new recipes to try (Note: any recipe that combines hake and 3 cups of milk is a baaaad idea!) My brother was banned from the kitchen after a few Hollyesque attempts and became the guinea pi... errr... food taster unless we were BBQing.

Dinner as a family was pretty big with my folks, and gatherings with extended family always included lots of time in the kitchen, so family time and food just sort of went together.

Status: offline 		When you cook you have greater control over what goes into your body. Micro-zapped frozen dinners and simlar such things excluded in my definition of "cooking".

Nearly everything you buy in the grocery store has been altered or had various chemicals/things added and who knows what too much and various combinations do to the body, not to mention the chemicals in cans, etc. Why exercise and not do drugs, drink or smoke and then eat garbage? It doesnt make sense. So, anyone that wants to limit or avoid (as much as one can) those artifical additives, etc, well, you just have to cook it yourself.

Which if you take it one step further, why do you garden? Again, greater control over how your food is grown and therefore, what you eat and what goes into your body. Not to mention that a few seeds and regular watering is considerably less expensive than buying retail.

Cooking takes on a greater meaning to me when I am in a relationship, I like to please and a good tasting, healthy meal is one way to do that.

Edited to add that I grew up on a farm, I was the only one in the family to become a vegetarian (at a very early age). Yes, the rest of my family all thought I was weird. I do eat some meat now but not that much. As a kid I had my own garden too.

I did not take his post that way.

My neighbor cooks for us every day.  She is generously giving of herself.
It is beautiful how she is concerned that it tastes good- and that I am full.


Would a man do this for another man?

I doubt it.

Having someone like this in my life is a pure joy. 

I have a good feeling when I score a whole bunch of meat at a good price.   

If I had known woman were like this- I might have got married.

That is a very important point; of late (the last decade) the food industry he become hugely skilled at "hiding" additives.

I'm not a "health food freak", but I do enjoy deciding precisely what I do, and do not, consume.
