NOPE.
 
I can figure most basic math easily without a calculator (which is more than some people can do), but find algebra extremely confusing. So far nobody has been able to explain algebra in a way I can understand it.
 
Aye, there's the rub.  I'm appalled at the way algebra is "taught."
 
Can a calculator figure all algebra problems for me without me having to understand them?
 
As someone else has said, "You NEED to understand."
 
I'm good at all other subjects and don't want to be denied a degree and lose my financial aid all because of one subject - math.


Please give an exmple and I step you through it.  It IS easy, and it is NOT those arithmetic "problems" being presented by PilotPTK.  Perfect example of "mis-teaching."

Give me an example of what you mean by "advanced" algebra.  And, BTW, how's your less-advanced algebra - they do build one upon the other.

Actually purchasing one part at a time when you are building custom control panels is not unusual. Of course you do that over and over all day long, so in actuality you are ordering many parts in a day. Then you throw in the larger orders that amazingly enough can be calculated with basic math. Maybe if you saw an actual purchase order it would help you understand.

Status: offline 		Of course its simple math! There is no complicated 'math' - its that ability to solve the simple math in the proper order that gives you ALGEBRA. (75/1000)*200 is exactly what you wrote, you just did the ALGEBRA part in your head and solved the two 'simple math' problems.

You mentioned order of operations. Is that what you are having the most trouble with? Can you post a few of the problems here? I'd be shocked if there wasn't someone here who could explain it in a way that would finally make it "click" for you.

Perhaps if you considered ordering more than one part at a time from a vendor you could save your company money on shipping and get larger order discounts. I couldn't imagine placing orders one part at a time - you miss out on so much savings. And as for seeing a PO, I personally sign anywhere between 200K and 1M per month worth of them.. Occasionally more.

P.S.  I use trig many, many times each day.

What if the original supplier was the cheapest and or most reliable? I'd fire you on the spot if you tanked a reliable vendor because you couldn't figure algebra without their help.

So I should buy an extra $2000 power supply to keep around the shop in case we ever get another cabinet that will need it? Sorry but I would have been fired. We didn't order parts we didn't need and since the cabinets were custom, they all needed different things. It would have been asinine to order and pay for things we didn't need and might never use, just to get a discount. I honestly can't belive that someone who works with po's thinks you need algebra to fill one out.

For me it was. I consider myself a math person, but if it wasn't for this one guy who "helped" me with all the take home exams when I took Statistics at GW, I would have completely failed. However, I LOVED algebra and geometry.

Yes and I have no clue how to help her. Hopefully the learning center at the college will have someone who can help. The teacher may know of some students who can tutor her also.

It wasn't an issue. The vendors I worked with just gave me the price of the item. They didn't ask me to figure it out myself. That's called customer service.
