Dear gawd I always handle personal stuff personally, but this is driving me fucking insane! 2 tubes of vagisil, did first tube of 3 day monistat earlier this evening when I laid down and tried to nap, but I am still going insane.

I have fought giving in to just scratching the hell out of the thing, but I have given in a few times. I have no idea what is causing it, no changes in soap, been a few months since I took antibiotics, just started as a tingling a couple days ago and is now hell. I am sure the fact that, at first it was kinda enjoyable and I masturbated about 5 times, didn't help a bit.

So, home remedies, soak in what? any ideas on how to cope with this insanity? If the morning is not a lot better I am going to call the doctor and go in, but I honestly do not know if I can make it much longer with this discomfort. Drinking lots of water, but I am about to stop that because peeing makes me wanna dig in and have a 5 minute scratch fest every time.

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH help me!!

Go to the doc and get checked out, he will give you appropriate course of treatment. Itching should not last that long or be that severe. Last time I had this occur I got a prescription from the doc that cleared it up in no time.

You might also want to try some Vagisil, externally, which could help ease the itching. Also try checking in the Aveeno line for a bath soak that will include colloidal oatmeal and be soothing.

People describe yeast as being cottage-cheese like.
It is never like that with me; instead it is more like small deposits of dental plaque.

I would go to the doctor since it is out of the blue.
There are other things besides yeast that can cause this.
http://www.ivillage.com/ditch-itch-deciphering-vaginal-itching/4-a-108261

Bacterial vaginosis is one of the other things that can cause itching but typically that is accompanied by a "fishy smell".
Monistat won't fix that.
If it is yeast the doctor can prescribe diflucan. It is in pill form and really does work well.
If it is yeast, since it is out of the blue I would ask your doctor to perhaps check your A1c level.
Sometimes in women, yeast 'infections' are the first sign of diabetes.
Yeast infections are more common in diabetic women.

You may find Tucks wipes to be soothing.

I hope you feel better soon.

No odor, no discharge. Reading that link, I did realize I bought some Tampax tampons and used them for the first time in years. Dont know how that could contribute, but I am going to not use them again for a while.

I wonder if it may be hormonal, I have been having periods that are light and irregular, like the peri-menopause may be coming to see me. Dryness could cause itching I am seeing from all my web surfing.

Thank gawd for vagisil........I have also discovered that my mind can not make this a hot sexual thing, no matter how much I try to convince me it is a good pain-lol.

Might be due to the antibiotics you took (I get that after taking antibiotics a lot), for me the yoghurt option helps... You can also get the yoghurt as suppositories from a chemist, easier but more expensive, the spoon option is a bit messy.

quote:

Alternative Treatments
A variety of alternative treatments exist to help cure bacterial vaginosis and yeast infections. You may want to try a few out before resorting to stronger medication.

Tea Tree Oil: Tea tree oil suppositories are supposed to kill fungus or bacteria present in the vagina. Only try this treatment with advice from a certified professional.
Yogurt: Plain, unpasteurized yogurt contains lactobacillus acidophilus, or "good" bacteria. Applying this type of yogurt directly into the vagina, using a small spoon, spatula or an old vagianl cream applicator, at night for three to seven nights should help restore the balance of bacteria in your vagina. Just be sure to wear a pad as it can get a bit messy.

A friend of mine swears on garlic if she has a vaginal infection, I googled

http://www.midwiferytoday.com/articles/garlic.asp

Never tried it myself as yoghurt usually works a treat

My yeast manifestations are all internal... the 'plaques' are inside.

I think you nailed it. I don't use tampons any more because once I hit 40 I found I ended up with a yeast infection every time, even if the damn things were only in for an hour or so at a time.

My doc said it was due to hormonal changes caused by the perimenopause, which is a real pisser. Fortunately I had a mirena coil fitted and now don't get any symptoms at all, and even my periods are more like a little bit of light spotting so tampons aren't necessary.

Have you tried natural yogurt, inside and out? Until you get to the doc it might give you some relief.

Years ago I had terrible itching between my periods.  Discovered I was allergic to deodorant tampons.  The military store where I shopped only carried the deodorant kind so I was buying them instead of the regular like I had in the past.  Stopped using the deodorant tampons and itching was gone in a month.  What may sound strange is that I only had the itching between periods, not during.  Until I discovered this I used Lanacaine externally to ease the itch.

Soak in Episom Salt, but you really need to go to the doctor sounds like you may have a bacterial infection. Although some go away on their own most of the time you need a little bit of help. You could also use some Vaginal Salve but this will only relieve the symptom for a short period of time. Drink lots of cranberry juice, water, and back off on the sugar. If it is yeast---YEAST LOVES SUGAR!

Good luck

I soaked in an oatmeal bath this am, thanks to someone who emailed me on the other side, then smeared up with Vagisil. I had to go to work to tie up a few loose ends before being off for summer, and it got really bad. I went and found some "water gel", a thing that we use to stop the pain from burns in the kitchen. Active ingredient-lidocaine.

So, I think, well if it wont hurt on a burn, maybe it wont destroy my girlie bits. gathered my bravery, and got a big old blob on my fingers and.......well, you know......applied liberally to the affected area-lol.

After about 30 secinds of burning, a bit more intense than vagisil, numbness. Wonderful numbness, no pain and no itch. It is still working and that was a few hours ago. I brought it home, and I am going to use it today and tomorrow, while giving the Monistat time to work. Hopefully, that will be all it takes.

If it is not better by Wednesday morning, definately going to the doctor.

Ah, I hear Tammy Wynette in my head, singing "sometimes its hard to be a woman"......

I am definately going to check out yogurt suppositories and try to have some on hand, just in case this ever happens again. I am hoping it is a once every 49 years kind of thing though. Thanks for all the hints and advice!

Just get some natural yoghurt, should work the same, syringe and give it some... But make sure you wear pads, it's seriously a mess no matter if suppositories or plain yoghurt, don't wear your best panties or dark coloured panties as they will look "strange"...

i'm cringing reading this thread......my personal opinion is that you not put anything else on it except the Vagisil or Monistat, or soak in anything else until you see the doc to see exactly what's causing the infection because there's a good chance you're just going to increase the irritation and make things worse

I've had yeast infections where I didn't have any kind of heavy discharge or "cottage cheese" but the itching was like a whole nest of cobras just latched on and decided to take a ride..... It takes a day or two for the Monistat to really kick in.....

Hi JAS

There could be a culmination of factors at work--
as other said:
The tampons *could* very well be the cause....
vaginal itching like you described can also be related to yeast infections, vaginitis, hormones (menopause is a big one!), stress and some STDs.  There are some more unusual causes but I won't list them here--they are rather rare.

Here's the take home advice--since the OTC remedies aren't working, go to your GYN and have it checked out, just to rule out what it isn't.  Most of the causes of the vaginal itching are NOT serious  (one or two are, but most are easily remedied with prescription meds and some OTC solutions)  A urine sample and potential a swab/pap smear and you'll know soon enough!

Good luck--I know it's miserable--hope you're feeling better soon! (and try not to scratch--it makes it worse!)

It could also be a UTI. I thought I had a yeast infection a while back. Had severe itching and burning around the vaginal opening. I went to the doctor to get diflucan. She did a urine test, and I had a UTI. I didnt have a yeast infection. The itching and burning was coming from the infection in the urine. But I didnt have any symptoms of a UTI. She gave me antibiotics and told me to put some hydrocortizone cream on to help the itching til the antibiotics kicked in.

Usually--for most people--a UTI has other symptoms associated with it--like burning upon urination, irritation of the urethra, frequent/ineffective urination, abdominal pain and for the elderly--confusion, agitation.  It's pretty usual to have severe itching as the only symptom of a UTI, and the OP hasn't mentioned any other symptoms other than itching. But if she does have a UTI --a urinalysis will pick it up very quickly.  That, plus a pap smear if needed--So hopefully she'll get some tests soon to find out definitely.

My vagina is recovering fabulously!

I have always wanted to type that...

Something is working. I haven't winced in pain yet today. I dunno if it was the Monistat or the just keeping the lidocaine cream on it for a couple of days, but I am damn happy, what ever worked.

Now I have to make me keep my hands off it. It is no longer that omg it hurts so bad kinda pain. I can see it being an omg that hurts so good kind if I let me do things to it, so I told me that if I touch it before Sunday, I won't allow me to cum for a month.

I am so fucking mean to me!

Thanks for all the ideas and suggestions.

Since being diagnosed as a diabetic a couple of years ago, I have had a UTI about every 3 months (sexually active or not) and had no symptoms at all.

Of course, in the end, I wound up with kidney failure, so it is possible I was misdiagnosed from the beginning and something else was going on, but still no symptoms of anything.

You can use hydrocortisone for itching. You should be able to find some over the counter in the feminine hygiene section. It won't say that on the box, you'll have to flip it over and look for the active ingredient. You should always use a 7 day plan to get rid of a yeast infection. 7 day is usually a guarantee 3 day is always a gamble. Hope that helps.
