A Dom I am playing with seems very enamored with using a qtip in my urethra as a punishment. I am less than enthused with the idea but I try to be a good sub so I will submit to it. However, I am concerned about damage and infection. Are over the counter qtips sterile? If not how can I sterilize them? Hoe dangerous is doing this if lube isn't used. My personal motto is you can never gave touch lube. I told the Dom when we started that anything that would negatively effect my health was a hard limit. This is the first thing he has done that really pushed my comfort zone. I want to make sure it's safe but I also don't want to be a whiny bottom. Any suggestions on how to bring it up?

A qtip is a bit abrasive and rubbing it against the delicate mucosa of the urethra could result in microscopic excoriations which could invite infection.

This is a very bad idea! Is this D sterilizing your penis, his hands, the Q tip, wearing gloves? No? Well yo are exposing yourself to a bunch of possible infections then.

Are over the counter qtips sterile? Kendall & Qtip brands are sterile. If they are, it should say so right on the package. If not how can I sterilize them? Got an autoclave? "oh please Sir, it would still be equally as discomforting even if you put a little lube on it" or "look you fucking cheap ass twit, get that dry ass ear swab outta' my snatch and go to get some real Medical Toys if you wanna' play doctor with me again" Of course the results of that last one may be that you end up the recipient of catheters and on the business end of spreaders, Pratt dilators and if he has a kind heart, maybe a vibrating urethral sound . . . all of which are much more intense that a Q-tip.

The only cotton swabs that are sterile are those that come in individually packaged, marked sealed "sterile" packaging HOWEVER....cotton swabs (or their commercial name brand cousin, Q-Tips) are not sterile nor designed to be inserted into the urethra. You run a good risk of a urinary tract infection...and one of the problems with cotton swabs, as anyone who has used one in their ear--you can get bits of cotton that shed off where they don't belong. The only sterile device I recommend to be inserted into your penis is a catheter, since it is designed for that exact purpose. AND LUBE. MEDICAL GRADE LUBE. You cannot sterilize your bought in the grocery store, bulk q-tips--not with an autoclave, not with your microwave, nothing. Q Now...that said.... yes, there's more. Something is sterile when it is sealed, marked sterile packaging. It is NOT sterile if the person handling it does not know sterile procedures, and essentially contaminates the item before insertion. So do not assume that sterile in the packaging means sterile in your penis. Anyone who would put a Q-Tip without lube into your penis will not have a clue how to properly insert a cath using sterile procedures. And for those of you who are at home right now, inserting all sorts of fascinating objects into the tip of your penises....and about to tell this fellow it's safe.... thank you for the job security. See you in the ED! You aren't being a whiny bottom for protecting yourself from potential harm when you've set a boundary. I'm sure he can find another way to play with you that will get you both off. good luck.

I concur with almost all of the above... unless your top is an MD and REALLY knows what he's doing, (in which case I'm sure he could find better methods of 'punishment'!) inserting anything into your urethra invites a whole host of infectious complications. The only comment above that I find questionable is the use of PAM as lube. I'm positive the word 'sterile' is not printed anywhere on that can!

MD's, PA's, RNs' can all insert foley catheters, and there are quite a few people out there who have been trained to self-cath or cath their loved ones under their care, so presumably there are a number of people out there who have been properly trained to insert a cath. However....even caths inserted by trained professionals can lead to urinary tract infections. I truly do not understand how folks can enjoy cath play. hard limit of all hard limits for me. and I know everyone was just kidding (right?) Non-stick cooking spray in the penis is beyond a bad idea.

I'm glad you started this post. It almost took an act of God for Me not to post the concerns on the matter on your "saying no" thread. If you're really dealing with someone who doesn't know the safety concerns of buying generic q-tips off of the shelf and want to turn them into "sounds" I would seriously suggest that you start looking for another top. If that's the equipment they want to use, I don't even want to ask about the lack of learning on the subject. I don't think I've ever been to a demo on sounds that ever advocated the idea of putting something in the urethra that will leave foreign material inside, such as what can very easily happen when the "q" gets pulled off of the "tip". I'm with RS on the matter. Somebody needs to stop being so cheap and buy a decent set of sounds. You'll save money in the long run from that pesky, expensive emergency room trip. ETA two things. Even MP, who can not stand even the mention of this kind of play, tolerated listening to the original of this thread and asked if you were just being ridiculous. Second, I think you have actually surpassed the worst thread on sounds (the one where a gal "borrowed" a sound to use on her boyfriend, tried the play without cleaning it, and then wondered why he was getting a burning sensation days later) that has ever been on this site. Edited to add again. (Last one. I promise.) I'm now waiting for the person who is going to come along and post that they use q-tips as sounds safely for years and years. [8\|][8\|][8\|][8\|][8\|]

LP I say little prayers that the folks who post some of these health & safety threads do not try these things they suggest. Almost every time a post starts with ...is it safe to.... the answer is usually.... no.

My take would be that if he absolutely wants to insert something into your urethra, he should get himself sounds and if he can't afford the autoclave, a pressure cooker will do the trick just as well! In case he insists on the Q-tips (I cringe at the idea of inserting them "pure") I hope he will use sterile lube and use a condom which he handled very carefully... you know condom on with generous room to spare at the business end, after putting medical lube in the little reservoir that's designed for sperm, then using the Q-tip - won't make it 100% secure and risk free but it eliminates quite a few of the risks and when it comes to infections or your urinary tract, trust me, you do want to eliminate every risk you can....
