Well, not exactly....since you put it that way. I believe that for most in the various leather circles today--most, not all--the traditions about what you can wear and where you can wear it, are not rigidly adhered to. It can be a very personal thing--and practices may vary House to House. If you Master has established a certain dress code, then it is obviously significant and important to him, and hopefully, important and significant to you, if nothing else, by default. If you are NOT in service to someone, but the traditional ways of wearing leather are of important significance to you, then you will likely follow those practices. I am not old guard. Parts of my leather training were very based in old guard traditions--but a lot of my different training was not, and the new traditions and practices that I adopted are just as important to me as some of the old guard practices. One of those practices--back when I went to my first leather bar, every person in the bar had to be wearing at least three leather pieces--this usually meant boots, a belt and typically a vest, hat or jacket. If a boy had no leathers to wear, he could usually "get away with"--that is, be allowed into the bar--with 501's and a bare chest....or strip to a jock. I've seen a personal ad once mentioning polo shirts, so I'm not surprised to read there are those who fetishize them. It's just me waxing reminiscent. I prefer play parties and leather bars to have dress codes, even basic ones--and seeing people dressed in pastel polos, cardigans and loafers just screams "tourist" to me--big buzzkill. I'd have no problem if a play party was advertising it was "polo shirt fetish night" as long as I knew that in advance (and could stay home)
