A dirt bike usually has a 2 cycle engine and you add oil to the gas mixture.

Not any more, at least not by default. Most competitive MX bikes these days have gone over to high-revving 4-stroke engines because, with their greater low-rev torque, they're easier to win races on, coz you need many fewer gearchanges, and gearchanges and gearing on MX/Supercross bikes are crucial. They're also generally more reliable, in the short-term at least, but when they do go pop they can cost a small fortune to repair, due to the plethora of trick bits and space-age materials (especially cylinder liner coatings).

Oh and even the 2-strokes now usually run with oil feeders, so you don't have to run premix anymore. Which is useful, although in the case of younger riders it does often lead to them forgetting to check the oil tank, and then seizing. Even when there's a warning light ... "Didn't you see the red light?" ... "Yeah, but I thought it probably wasn't anything serious", as a mate's son said to me a little while back. Fortunately, 2-strokes are generally much easier to rebuild, but then again they need to be - they're not especially reliable to start with, particularly the high-revving MX bikes.

Fun though ... I started off-road, and still enjoy a bit of gentle "green lane" stuff.

I'm not really the crotch rocket type . . .

I assume you are talking street bikes with a 4 cycle engine where oil & gas are in separate tanks.  A dirt bike usually has a 2 cycle engine and you add oil to the gas mixture.

In general:

LMAO......um....I used to race a 450 4 stroke dirt bike RS.

Critch rocket refers to these;

So today I went and looked at the Shadow. My co-worker/maintenance man/fellow kinkster went with me to drive it around the block and check it out. He approved. The seller agreed to come down a few hundred but Im still a couple hundred away from having it all in cash. I might have it by monday if I have a good weekend, but I dont know yet. I hope I do because I really like this bike. Its a 2001 but its been kept up really nice and has very low mileage. I had originally applied for a loan  but Id really rather pay cash. especially since Im so close to having enough in space cash anyway. Very exciting day anyway.
