You know, this thread AND the AD is a small sample of why she probably felt her language wasn't out of line lol.  i mean we have people swearing and calling this girl they don't know names and such - while judging HER reaction and actions lol.  Seriously, how is that any different than what people are saying on this thread? People are reacting to something they don't like and think its fine to call her names and swear.  But yet it wasn't right for HER to do so?

And before anyone says well she did blah blah blah as a reason you are calling her names or swearing etc so she deserves it-- christ lol grow up.  I am sure she felt the theater deserved it.

Seems to me, many people are working on a double standard here.  As is the theater.

Just out of curiosity, how many people here would enjoy going to a theater and seeing this AD before you see a movie?  I can tell you, i don't want to be bombarded with her language -- but the Alamo seems to think people will want to hear it.  What does that say for our society?  So this girl was wrong for the profanity, how exactly? The Alamo seems to think its fine to broadcast same.

~FR~
Everybody's already pretty much argued this thing to death but I'm just going to throw my 2 cents in with those who support the theater. They have a business. They make their own rules. They want customers spending their hard-earned money to have a pleasant, enjoyable viewing experience where they can see and hear everything. If you are handing over your money with plans to come in, ignore parts of the movie while you talk, text or use your phone for a flashlight, you are obviously in the wrong place according to THEIR rules that they have every right to establish.

I have to tolerate people talking on phones while driving, texting and blabbing while I'm at a LIBRARY desk trying to assist them, and various other bullshit all day long, every day. When I go into a theater, I don't want to deal with that. Many, many other people don't either and, if you don't mind it, bully for you. I guarantee someone else in the theater DOES and that matters. It would be the tacky thing to do to force other paying customers to endure one who obviously doesn't care much about others or the movie.

Good for this theater. Now if they'd ALL do it, I could get some relief...............luci

She's not, and i don't think many people have said that she is. Where she's wrong is not understanding that there is a time and a place for things such as profanity (and texting).

A thread is a relatively good time and place for such things. A movie theater, or a business voicemailbox, less so.

Why do you assume this is without warning?

I am going by what the young lady said when she lodged her complaint.... she said she was asked to leave without a warning.

After hearing her voice mail, I would tend to believe the theater personnel.

Well, that is your prerogative. I do not think I would be that mad unless I was kicked out without warning and given no refund.... but hey, we all have opinions

Your posts are rational and level-headed from what I've seen, though I haven't made a habit of stalking anyone here at CM, so I can't swear to all of them being that way. With that in mind, I'd be willing to bet money that if you were given a warning you would have heeded said warning, and likely would have done the responsible and graceful thing had you wanted to continue watching until the end of the flick.

But I'm not so sure that a self-entitled sounding teenager would handle being warned in the same fashion. She may have gotten ample warning, and still fired off a snippy message just because she was feeling butt-hurt and embarrassed over being escorted from the theatre.

I could be entirely wrong. She may have gotten absolutely no warning, save for the PSA type message that's played before the film. Giving her the benefit of the doubt, she might have been at the concession stand getting her overpriced popcorn and fizzy drink when that little video played. Nevertheless, every theatre I've ever been to has had announcements of that kind prior to the film being played. I take them seriously, and have, in the past, wished that the people I was seated near would do so as well. I can't imagine that she's actually never seen those messages in any other theatre before.

sophia37 -> RE: Texter gets kicked out of theater and leaves (profane) VM (6/8/2011 5:53:52 PM)

My guess? The theater used her voice mail because this touches a nerve with all of us. Look at how many pages this thread is all ready! This hits home in so many ways. We are a society torn between love of technology and hate for it as well. We are a society that has concerns for our young people. We are a society that has vasts amounts of people raised in one era and vasts amounts of people raised in another.

Humans care about the future. So here are those of us stating the cursing/texting has gotten out of control. Those of us here also state cursing/texting is the norm. No big deal.

I think cursing/texting has become more the norm. And as an almost 50 year old, I'm  not so hot about it. Why, I've watched porn from the 70's and even that sounds polite compared to now. So my guess? The management is closer to my age than to the age of the women who got kicked out. I think managements viewpoint skews towards older. So PS, management is usually ALWAYS older than 20 something. So years from now, I'm curious as to their take on the subject. Right now?  I see it as...I'm in charge. So I LOVE their youtube ad. Its nice to be management.

This theater is also a restaurant with wait staff that brings food to you seat.

Just thought you should know.

Ah, I see. In that case, perhaps she was in the loo? At any rate, the rest remains the same. ^_^

I think that it has been established that there were warnings of various sorts. The reason that even such warnings might be needed in the first place is that there are some few in society that actually need to be told not to poop next to their plate, because it is unavoidably too close to others' plates.

For those that actually need that brought to their attention, we cannot lock them up as to do the right thing for society, we have to rely upon independent establishments as the first line of defense against such 'indulgence'. The Uni library is not up to the task. Somebody has to step up and do the right thing here.

I'm looking at the "was she warned, was she not warned" argument and I have a question.

Since when do you have to fucking TELL people that it's rude to text and/or yack on a cell phone during a movie while 100 or more other people are trying to watch the damn thing?

Have people become THAT fucking stupid and self centered?

Edwynn -> RE: Texter gets kicked out of theater and leaves (profane) VM (6/8/2011 8:22:17 PM)

More to the point, when 100 hundred or more people paid $10 to watch and hear the movie, not to deal with the distraction of somebody poking his or her finger into a lit up mini-screen.

The time she spent poking her lit up pad was time deducted from anybody around her who paid good money to watch the movie. Is she going to give them a refund?

Hear! Hear!!! Look at all the warning signs which are so prolific these days. A lot of them I call "I are stoopid" signs, because they tell you things that if you had a brain you could figure out anyway. Like this stove is hot. DUH!! All part of the dumbing down of America & the trend to never make anyone take responsibility for their own actions & behaviors.

But I think that might be a different thread.

Bottom line is, she broke the rules, she suffered the consequences & she made an ass out of herself on a recording.

I could have sworn that 50-60 years ago, the belief was that it was the people who made America great.

Unfortunately, now it's the people who make America the land of stupid, backwoods morons and self-important snobbish nitwits who think the universe revolves around them.

Now....the people are why America will fail. That saddens me to say.

This is what I was thinking. They're the same people behind the reasons manufacturers have to tell people not to use hair dryers in the shower, not to put infants in plastic bags, not to put your hand into a document shredder, and to lather, rinse & repeat on shampoo bottles. Because yes, a lot of people HAVE become that fucking stupid and self-centered.

Or they don't want to be sued by people stupid enough to put pets into the microwave, leave matches and lighters near small children and then sue the manufacturer...

Yes, and it's not just in America either. Here in Sydney you'd be forgiven for thinking that every second movie-goer had two phones, and that they were legally required to check both of them every 10 minutes. Both incredibly frustrating and distracting.
I really wish some of the cinemas around here would bring in a don't text, don't talk or you're out rule.
