I guess staying tied up with a blindfold on is really not an option for taking it easy?[8D]

Sounds good to me. Except that means eating his cooking and nobody wants to do that!

Termyn8or -> RE: Floaters (6/26/2011 11:08:20 PM)

When are they going to fix this thing ?

If it tears a piece of your retina off it might fold back on itself. That DOUBLES the blind spot. To undo that they must put you in like a gyroscope mount and spin you around to use the force of gravity to have the flap come to rest where it belongs. Then it is welded with a special laser, not a YAG. It's something else, or it might be a different setting on the YAG. But the YAG generally cuts.

If I were an opthamlogigist and saw a mass attached to your retina I would have called the laser room and just got you in edgewise. I mean, I don't know what everyone else's understanding of this problem is, but no matter what, no jumping. They said it. If it is that critical, they should have booked time THE SAME DAY to burn this thing off at least.

That's because once the retina starts tearing it's like aluminum foil. And if the tear goes to where the optic nerve hits, it's over. That is not likely in this case, but why a fucking month ? And why take the risk ?

Maybe you could get a second opinion, not to fight their opinion, but to say "GET THIS PERSON UNDER THE LASER NOW" !

I am not a doctor. But that is my opinion. This should not be delayed so.

T^T

I am not out to set you to worry about this, oh wait, maybe I am. If they say don't jump, fuck that. What if you trip and fall ? Just burn the thing off now, you'll stil have the floater but it won't be a danger. I got more shit floating around in my eyes than you could stand,. It's just not attached. Being attached is very bad, when it is to the retina.

DesFIP -> RE: Floaters (6/27/2011 9:48:44 AM)

If it detaches neatly, they won't do anything. If it pulls off leaving a hole in the retina, they'll try a laser to patch it. That's why I'm to take everything carefully until it detaches. Right now we're in the wait and see period. And hoping it will resolve on its own.

Ooh, tempting. But where do we get the other two? [8D]

Termyn8or,

YAG can do pretty much anything you care to have it do, so long as the gear is designed for it. That said, opthamology is not really the best subject in which to second guess the docs without having some serious background in the field yourself. You'll just end up doing more harm than good. As a rule, retinal repair with a laser is something to avoid until it is necessary, simply because it's irreversible and carries a risk that is very definitely not negligible.

Health.
