I've been having an issue with severe hot flashes, irritability and lack of energy due to menopause.  I am not a candidate for HRT for reasons I won't go into here.

My doctor told me that there have been studies done with menopausal women which has shown that Zoloft can relieve the hot flashes.  His experience is that many of his patients whom he has prescribed Zoloft do very well, others do not.  I know this is the case with any medication.

I told him that I wanted to do some of my own research first and let him know at a later date if I want to try Zoloft.  I already did the natural stuff - soy, black cohash, etc. They did nothing.

Does anyone here have experience with using Zoloft to manage menopause symptoms, primarily hot flashes? 

It kind of scares me to take an anti-depressant medication for menopause, but I'm desperate.  I'm tired of my hair being dripping wet from the 20 or more hot flashes I suffer through every day and wake up with every night.

Zoloft is an SSRI like Paxil, which is what I take for my menopausal symptoms. I have had great results with the Paxil, after trying everything you have mentioned and more. The two are very very similar, perhaps discuss it with your doctor. They are not just anti-depressants, but are used for a variety of things, including OCD, PMS, PMDD, anxiety disorder, severe menopause symptoms and to help control phobias.I hope this is of some help to you.

I took Zoloft for unipolar depression during perimenopause and was surprised and delighted when the night sweats entirely disappeared and hot flashes became much lighter and much less often.

I've read alot about Zoloft on the internet but nothing beats the insight of first-hand experience. [;)]

I use a different SSRI and I think I've had about 3 hot flashes in two years. I didn't realize the correlation until recently. Not sure I'd take an SSRI for that, but I'm not in your situation.
