Speaking as a South Asian myself, I am dismayed but not surprised by the woman's (yes, she is South Asian too) behaviour. Many South Asian and East Asian parents in the US tend to put an inordinate emphasis on their children's academic education, often being dismissive of anything not related to "book-learning" (see, for instance, the recent brouhaha about the Tiger Mom). There's also an element of bragging rights associated with what schools their children went to and what academic degrees they acquired.

Needless to say, this often engenders an irrational sense of entitlement in far too many South Asian children. And what you saw in that news report and associated video was a perfect example of this.

I like that first comment there :

"Years ago, as a county jailer, I was booking in a woman that was considered to be in the upper echelon of our local community. She looked around at the various people in the booking area and stated, "I dont belong here with THESE people."
My Sergeant replied, "Lady, you ARE these people."
