Sorry to dredge up an old thread, but I like closure. I will admit it. I thought the carnival was going to be a bit dorky. It was int he backyard of a private home, starting in the heat of the day at 2 pm. I figured it would be fun and liked the idea of a laid back bbq atmosphere. But still...so many things to go wrong. The weather might suck, the neighbors might be nosy, bugs could be a problem, there might be no one there but the mods and the hard core regulars. I was glad I wasn't in charge of it. I am too lazy. Still, I took inspiration from you all and lugged in my tub-o-fun and set up for my sensory booth, a whole ten minuted before things were scheduled to begin. I should not have doubted the fearless leadership. There was obviously a lot of work in the set up, from signage to tents to pretty scraves draped at my booth. There also some bucks put into it, such as the pricey but perfect-temperature wax or cool carnival prizes or so many other things that could easily go unnoticed. There was a small above ground pool which came in handy as well. And for the first twenty minutes or so, it still seemed like it could go either way. Lots of standing around. I wore a very pretty icey blue corset style top with sequins and lace, so at least I knew I was looking lovely while sweating. :) But then the people started arriving, the booths got busy, the conversations got going, and some clothes came off. Old faces, new faces, lots of smiles, and some screams too. Pretty soon it was an hour past booth-quitting time and I still had one more person waiting, ticket in hand. (The wax booth went on another full hour after me!) I laid out an array of items. As people approached I gave a quickie speech on "what sensory play means to me" and asked them to remove any item they did not want used on them. Then we quickly discussed what parts of the body were okay to touch and how much clothing they were going to remove. I blindfolded most of them and we were off. Items that got the biggest response were the ting-ting (mmmmm) and the electric fly swatter (ouch!) Most people got about 10-12 minutes, though a few evolved into more of a "mini scene" and took maybe a half of an hour. I was tired by the end. But not so tired I didn't stay another six hours.
