Kaliko -> RE: What is a God ? (6/29/2011 9:57:43 AM)

I believe that there are things in the universe that we can't explain. (Yet.)

I believe that as time goes on, "science" and "religion" will be found to support one another, not contradict.

I believe that to understand whatever higher power there is, we need to forego our preconceptions of what a higher power is.

I suspect that humans are incapable of understanding that "higher power", if that's even what it is.

And so...I've let it go. I don't follow any certain religion. I tend to follow science. Science....is.....miraculous. A "higher power" is only divine because we don't understand it. If we were to get to the point of truly knowing all the answers to the universe, meaning of life, and everything else that "God" answers for us, then there would be no reason to have a "God." We would simply know.....even if all we know is that there is definitely a God. It would no longer be a miracle. It would be a fact. (Like the sun traveling across the sky used to be the work of gods. Now, the rotation of the Earth is just fact. Nothing changed except our perspective.)

I have a lot of "I believe" statements above, and the only reason I truly believe in them is because I feel that way with utmost certainty inside of me. Much like followers of organized religion feel their faith in their belief system. There's no right way to the answers - whether one follows a religion or not - ultimately, eventually, the truth will come out one way or another, even if it's only through our deaths. The only thing we can really go by is what feels right to us, and how could we ever explain why something feels a certain way to us? We can't (at least I can't) and so....we have faith that how we feel is what is right. If it's science-based or faith-based, either way we are really throwing our faith into it.

so a coeval entity. that's a very fucking interesting idea. it leads me to this question. is the universe real. does existence actually fucking exist, or is it simply an idea/thought/dream of this entity representation?

there is a theory that we are all just simulations in a complicated program run by future generations of humans. =p

There is also one that we are all just a butterfly's dream.

Classic Animal House:

"Okay. That means that our whole solar system could be, like one tiny atom in the fingernail of some other giant being. .....This is too much! That means one tiny atom in my fingernail could be--"

"Could be one little tiny universe."

"Could I buy some pot from you?"

Then there is the Gauld Ori idea from stargate.

Yes, I suspect.

It exists, but I question how aware we are of it. I’m inclined to believe, not nearly as much as some of us would like to think.

"so a coeval entity. that's a very fucking interesting idea. it leads me to this question. is the universe real. does existence actually fucking exist, or is it simply an idea/thought/dream of this entity representation?"

Someone came up with a theory not so long ago that the universe is a holographic type projection, and that reality really only exists at the source. I have no fucking idea if it has any merit, but it's said to explain a few things which are yet unexplained. If true it seemed to make a hell of alot of scifi possible at the very least.

I don't know what Einstein would think of it, but I don't quite agree with him anyway. I do not believe that the speed of light has anything to do with time for one. The holographic projection idea, IMO completely destroys the supposed light speed barrier which I do not believe exists anyway. And it doesn't interfere with my concept of time. Despite the fact that alot of my favorite scifi is based on time travel, I do not believe that it is or ever will be possible. I just refuse to fucking believe it.

( see, I'm trying to work your favorite fucking word in here, howm I doin ? )

So if we are all actually some type of holographic projection, would the projector be God ?

T^T

What is a god, perhaps a dog seen in a mirror

no, short and pithy little bite sized pieces are just fine.

to save time, rather than ask a bunch of fucking questions, i'm going to hazard a bit of a guess and fill in a few blanks. let me know if i have the right of it or if if i've fucked it up, just where.

god is an existent separate self aware entity who is responsible for the form of creation (i'm guessing for fucking actually creating it, but that wasn't touched on). this god has a role more akin to that of a parent rather than that of as fucking monarch or ruler, implying a certain degree of benevolence. and while god does at times take an active interest in the affairs of the fucking universe, this interest is sporadic, perhaps based on some fucking factor that we have not yet figured out.

how'd i do icky?

For me, not exactly.
I have a number of theories and that's all we can really have, that and faith. I first and foremost believe, not in any particular way..Just observe and from observations I've at least gotten to the point at which I think I see intelligent design even in what may seem like random chaos.
I do believe he has manifested himself throughout time possibly in one form or another to man. I believe that he is in spirit in every single one of us and all around us a conscious entity.

When I stated earlier that He was like a parent I meant that God created all that we see..God fathered us. God looks out for us and even allows us to fall flat on our faces at times..we suffer and hopefully learn. When we die, I believe we are born again into yet another body or form for a continuation of our learning process to adulthood.

When I step back from all of the world for a minute. Back from myself and sit quietly and think trying to take in a bigger picture of humanity as a whole..where we've been and where we are at present..That's where the correlation between God the parent and the human race as children seems to fit for me. We are very much infants barely out of the womb.

I feel like a new age dirty hippie now.
Hopefully that made a little sense [:D]

I know to my father that "God" was the perfect lead in to "Damn mother fucking cock sucking bastard" when confronted with a stripped screw on a service call. Pretty damn valuable concept, imo.
