I was just browsing past topics for this very subject two days ago. 'Motivation' was about as specific a term I could search for and get any results at all. Most searches yielded nothing because terms were too general, I tried scanning one forum chronologically from the beginning but with over three hundred pages, at twenty topics per page, there were over six thousand topic titles to choose from. I did not have that many hours to devote to digital archeology so I did not get very far. If only the topics were categorized, topic names were more usefully descriptive or more threads lived up to their topic heading. Oh, and it would be great if potato chips were not fattening ;)
Thanks for revisiting the subject, LillyBoPeep. Maybe substantial responses are elusive because it is difficult for anyone to introspect and describe profound aspects of their personality at all, let alone in a way that will be understandable to others.
Perhaps dominants could be prompted to explain their orientation if there were some specific queries:
- Does your dominance predate your sexual awakening (i.e. puberty)?
- In your mind, how do you group and/or separate such concepts as domination (the 'd' in D/s kind), domineering (the good leadership kind and/or the not-so-good nagging kind), sadism, alpha-type personality.
- Is your dominance applied in both vanilla and kinky contexts or, perhaps, compartmentalized and reserved for a D/s relationship.
- What do you enjoy about it? (Warm fuzzy feelings? Carnal appetites? Someone else tending the housework? Etc?)
These questions are only intended as food for thought. Approach them however you like or not at all. Just want to let you know some of us are genuinely curious and will appreciate any insight you may provide. Thanks in advance.
