I would have no problem whatsoever moving as long as I could be sure that certain things I require would be available to me. A way to earn a decent income, a place to live that I could have my furry babies and room for my family to visit, an enviroment that I would be happy and comfortable in. I will not forfeit my financial present and future but I am flexible.

Okay okay, if you insist I’ll leave the beard on.

Slipstreme -> RE: Who Moves (5/16/2006 1:34:33 PM)

Because I want to move. :P

Actually right now the only thing preventing me from moving north with some friends of mine who may be my potential submissives is that I am a UF student.

To me, it all depends on who the partner is with the best stability. Sure, it should be the Dom at times, but I have to admit. I am a college student, barely making by, so having someone move down here would be ridiculous, unless they have a stable income. We would both crash. Sometmes too, both partners may decide to move and combine their incomes. Especially with those of us who are young and just getting on our feet. Having multiple people and multiple incomes under one roof often helps us survive, and for some of us, helps us get away from our parents (points to said friends).

It all depends on what is going on their lives, and which partner the act of relocating is advantageous.

This is inspired by profiles not threads---but it hit Me--why in the world would a Dominant post relocation on their profile? I always assumed any submissive would move to Me---that just gives Me an odd feeling about the stability of the Dominant---I am so open for opinions on this one.

I would think whomever had the easiest time moving would do the moving.  There are a lot of things to consider, careers being one of them.

MistressMelissa -> RE: Who Moves (5/16/2006 2:12:54 PM)

There does not seem to be a standard answer. Much depends upon the situation but I would not be willing to move for a slave. I have a theory that says "if I build it they will come". Yes, I took it from Field of Dreams, but the point is if I have my life together and have myself properly established, I will find the slaves I seek. By mastering myself and getting my life together, I would naturally draw or attract submisively minded people to me.

Then there is the whole control issue. I own my house, my cars and pretty much everything in my house. My girl who has served me these last 3 years has no attachment or claim to any of this. It's all in my name and before you start saying community property, I'm covered there as well. As a dominant can I always be able to make the hard choices if I'm worried about loosing half my stuff or that I would lose the income from a slave or a roof over my head because I upset a slave? When my decisions are influnced or compromised by these worries, I feel compromised as a dominant. I also feel it is important that the slave understands that this is my house and my turf. That they are in my world or realm.

I have been offered houses, a pamper life and marriage, but too me all these things would give the slave power over me by making me dependent upon them. That is not acceptable to me.

Thank you for this thread and I have enjoyed reading everyones comments.

I strongly feel the submissive or slave should move to be with the Dom, Fem Dom, Master or Mistress. I usually find that the Dominant, Fem Dom, Master or Mistress who is willing to move or give up Their living space, Job or surroundings are usually not very stable to begin with. But then again that is My opinion. Every slave that has come to this Household has moved here after, they have Interviewed And/Or Visited. Notice I said they moved here.

It just made more sense to us for Master to move to me. The decision was pretty much based around work.

OHMIGOD! For HIM I'd move in a heartbeat!!!!!

Sensualips -> RE: Who Moves (5/16/2006 3:11:01 PM)

I am astounded at the presumptuousness that naturally the submissive would move.  I would think it would depend entirely on the situation and not personality or orientation.

I can not even grasp why being relocatable would make a dominant "unstable" any more than it would make a submissive unstable.

LadyMorgynn -> RE: Who Moves (5/16/2006 3:12:46 PM)

Ditto aversion.  I'm so freaking sick of moving!  Should it happen, the slave gets to come out and pack and load the truck, and help drive.

Secondly, re home turf, you've put your finger right on the problem spot.  If the slave is renting, the solution is easy.  He can move out and into a place you have picked in the same town.  If he owns his own home, there are a couple of roads to travel; one being that you pick a place, and he rents out his home and moves in with you.  Alternatively, before you arrive, he should put ALL his things (except necessity.... clothes, accessories, computer) into storage and have the house completely (professionally) cleaned for you to move into.  Thereby allowing you to make it "your" place, as it should be (even though he still owns it).

I am, personally, averse to moving.  I have been offered homes with various boys, if I would just relocate to them.  There is something about the fact that I am moving to their home turf that bothers Me.  I am sure it is not a conscious thing on the part of the submissive, but there is a home court advantage to be considered.    And if I am not moving into their home, then I can see little reason to uproot Myself, in the first place.  Since I plan to be in charge, I don't want to start a relationship living under his roof.

MstrssPassion -> RE: Who Moves (5/16/2006 3:24:20 PM)

The ability to relocate has nothing to do with one's stability.

I moved to be with my partner... well in fact we both moved. I moved to the east coast of Florida from Tampa & she moved about 20 miles north. My employment was easily transferable. Her job required she remained in her region as close to the corporate office as possible. We needed a much larger place than what she had when we were dating & we found a new home where we are now.

Who moves?

Completely depends on the individuals involved not their 'role' of being dominant or submissive. I believe housing & job has far more to do with it all.

Being that we are poly... we would have to remain open as to whether we would move to be with another or whether that individual would move to be with us...

That's why were holding out for someone with a private island [:D][;)]

IronBear -> RE: Who Moves (5/16/2006 5:15:11 PM)

This, I found somewhat amusing myself, when I was browsing the Male Dom profiles for Aussie looking to see who is Gor oriented or interested and discovered a number were ready to relocate...  Perhaps they are in the happy state where the are financialy independent and can afford to move about or live in a motor home and travel to avoid the winters on the Southern States....

Sinergy -> RE: Who Moves (5/16/2006 5:28:07 PM)

Well, I am a union longshoreman and self defense instructor for a company here in southern california.  While I could conceivably hook up with another chapter of the self-defense company, I imagine that unless they somehow move Los Angeles harbor to where my submissive is, it is unlikely I will be the one who moves.
At least not until my probationary period is up, and then only if she lives near a harbor which has a union presence in it.

gooddogbenji -> RE: Who Moves (5/16/2006 5:31:51 PM)

For me, I have probably moved about 10 times, (I'm almost 23, so once every 2 years) and all of them were voluntary, either by my parents, or by me.  Right now, my family, with which I am very close, all live well within an 8 hour flight.  I have no local ties that are critical to maintain, because if I want to see my best friends, I fly out west, to europe, or drive 4 hours.

I have now lived at the centre of the universe, Toronto, a FABULOUS city for 2 months, and love it here.  Within, at the most, 2 years, I will get bored and prolly up and move to Australia or Singapore, or Timbuktu, or wherever I feel like it.

If I find a Mistress I want a long term relationship with, I can move to her.  Not because I'm the slave, but simply because I have nothing to tie me down (Pun intended!).  If I were Dom, I'd be just as eager to move.

And if it didn't work out, I'd move again.  C'est la vie.

Just my opinion.

Yours,

benji

Lordandmaster -> RE: Who Moves (5/16/2006 5:38:53 PM)

I can't move (because I am, for better or for worse, tied to this region), but if I were younger and met the slave of my dreams, and she couldn't move for some valid reason, I'd certainly consider moving to her.  I don't think it's somehow un-dominant to relocate.

Of course, I'm not big on the "slave of my dreams" concept, but you know what I mean.

dogobedience -> RE: Who Moves (5/16/2006 9:45:28 PM)

I can move IF the girl cannot.
I can move since I control MY LIFE.
I can move because I have set up my life to capture the right one for me, either me moving to her, or she me.
BUT, I agree for many the thought of the dom moving requires alot of dialogue to understand why, IF EVER.

For me it's all about practicality.  Finances, family, future circumstances and where ultimately we want to go.

So to me it's really just a matter of where it's right to move and absolutely nothing to do with who is dom or sub.
Absolutely agree.
I have a fairly flexible job, and my dominance doesn't determine where it's best he and I live; what's best for both of us/our families becomes the bigger determinant of who should move.
If that makes people think me unstable, oh well, some days I probably can be. [sm=rolleyes.gif]   M
