This I know.

He`s awful.

Not just in the states but most anywhere he does business.

That`s why I`m taking pleasure in his embarrassment.

It's like last week when the evidence that HR Haldeman wrote the first draft of the Fox News. Now they're all collectively like "I don't give a fuck" "Don't read it", or equating it with digging deep enough to involve Jesus... the simple facts are that their whole bullshit package is getting hung out in the sun for what it is.

Whats to respond to? The OP is wrong to begin with, and people lose money in investments all the time. T Boone Pickens lost more on his energy investments, Warren Buffet lost $16 billion in 2008, and Facebook will eventually go the way of MySpace when the next big thing hits and their investors at the time it peaks will lose far more than RM did.

Remember when AOL was "it"?

Now its just another arm of the DNC and membership is dismal despite their giving it away

OH Im watching the debate in the HOC about the lizard king and he is in deep shit... Love it, it couldnt happen to a nicer bloke.
They are reallly pissed off with being hornwswaggled by his type of news. At long last

Operating costs, lost revenue, what they would have earned had they not fuck-up so badly.

When a couple divorces and assets are split and child-support/alimony are figured out, future earnings and potential salary increases are always added in.A doctor in residence will certainly earn more as time goes by.Those factors are always a part of the math.

It`s never just what the couple(with kids) has now.The future earnings are always part of the mix.

It`s not just the straight buy/sell numbers but what they should have earned and the other costs of failure.

I never said rupert didn`t have the money to loose or couldn`t absorb the losses.

With billionaires,it`s monopoly money.

I`m enjoying ruperts embarrassment.

Remember when Mosley had to deal with one of the sleazy outlets of Rupert and Rupert got bitch slapped in court? Seems karma is catching up with the sleaze merchant

I disagree. While there will certainly be a successor to Facebook, Facebook has done a FAR BETER JOB positioning itself to have m a more stable run on top of the market. For one thing, myspace was aimed at a MUCH younger demographic with the as their primary marketing thrust. Whereas Facebook was pointed straight at a college student demographic and allowing for younger users to participate, and the kept the marketing pressure on that demographic which had a magnet effect within the professional space. And when the went into the business community they had and continue to have a huge edge, and one of the things their marketing intelligence people provide the sales force is nearly contemporaneous information about traffic hitting facebook from the specific marketing target's ideal audience. AND they'll walk into a sales meeting knowing how many of your own people are on their network THAT DAY.
Myspace used to do a piss poor job with a less focused pitch and really, at the end of the day, their questionable and substantial connection to 'too young an audience' and things like web prostitution. . Which is great except how many fucking hip hop joints, teen boutiques and skateboard companies are there really? Also, many companies, very shortly into their tenure had instituted outright bans on browsing there.
Lastly, the myspace interface ALWAYS sucked, and Facebook follows a K.I.S.S. model and generates a remarkably low support ticket rate compared to just about any other online business of it;s kind.
Yeah, facebook will go the way of the dinosaurs. But their dynasty is going to last MUCH longer than myspace. It will more closely resemble Howard Johnson's turning over the lead to Mc Donald's in my opinion.

FirstQuaker -> RE: Oh the Lizard of Oz has other troubles now. (7/6/2011 3:37:30 PM)

Actually Murdoch made money on his Myspace investment, and still has rights to the data as well as a 5% share of the stock.Myspace apparently got sold to a company who plans on data mining the thing, if you have a Myspace account and plan on not using it fill it up with fictitious garbage, and change your physical  addy if you can. He merely wasn't able to sell it for quite what he thought he could get for it. Myspace had yearly revenues as high as 600 billion USD while he owned it..

In short. it is  like a business vehicle you buy new, use a number of years and sell off for what you can get after you ran the wheels off it. And with his access to Myspace data still as part of the sale, Murdoch sold the cow but gets his share of the cream still, alas.

As I noted if you want to enjoy seeing Murdoch take a real beating, get some popcorn and watch what is going on in the UK. If this blows his takeover of Sky, and some of Parliament is already demanding it, he is really going to be out billions, never mind what the boycotts, censure and fines will be costing him both financially and in "good will.'

Most all of those losses by others were as a result of the equity lost in the market quit a bit of which has rebounded. Pickens made several hundred million on his leverage plays. He made have lost it since but he didn't in oil.

Murdock however...bought high, invested more and sold low. That's the worst kind of incompetence in investing. No worry, the capitalist is never truly alone in suffering losses...he will be able to 'carry forward' and write them off any future profits for the NewsCorp. for 3 years, so we taxpayers will take a hot too.

Not sure how you find he made money. He paid $580 million and sold for $35. Also it doesnt seem like the plan is just to data mine it when Timberlake talks about revitalizing it. My guess is data mining + a niche market in music promotion.

FirstQuaker -> RE: Oh the Lizard of Oz has other troubles now. (7/6/2011 4:59:52 PM)

Oh he profited. The ad space alone was worth it to him, and while he did not get to put the entire revenue stream in his pocket, he got a nice fraction of it. The Google account itself was worth many millions.

My educated guess is he came out about 600-700 million USD ahead on the deal, looking at the revenue figures. He did not bother to seriously maintain the thing, just used Myspace and then "losed" it.

The place would have been in bankruptcy court if it was actually as non-productive as claimed. Again you have to look at this as you would look at buying any other deprecatable asset, like a delivery truck or such, for that is how he treated the place .
