thatsOKsweetie -> Meaning of the word "slut" (7/6/2011 3:27:53 AM)

I see several women who identify themselves as sluts here.  I think it's wonderful, of course, but I think it's interesting that the word seems to a different connotation in CM.  It's almost a term of celebration, or a badge of honor.  So I'm trying to work out thwat the word slut means. I'm thinking that it might mean
Slut (noun): A woman who can put pride, ego, and shame away as she pursues sexual pleasure.
Not that I'm out to write a dictionary.  But I'd like to hear from others on this.  Is the term more than just a derogatory cliche?

A slut? That's a woman who'll fuck anybody, except you.

PhilSlave -> RE: Meaning of the word "slut" (7/6/2011 3:42:57 AM)

I thought Slut was a noun to describe, dirty slovenly or immoral women and sometimes prostitutes. I can't see how any woman would be proud to be called that... or is it yet another word that has been hijacked by a specific group like gay. In this case, dirty slovenly, immoral women and prostitutes and they want it to mean we're proud to be dirty, slovenly and immoral women and or prostitutes and we want that to become a mainstream, alternative aspiration for other people, 'cause it ain't that bad a thing 'ta' be', is it?

kiwisub12 -> RE: Meaning of the word "slut" (7/6/2011 3:49:00 AM)

When applied to me with love, it means a woman who revels in her sexuality.

So basically, it's a hijacked word where people ignore the dictionary definition and decide what they want it to mean because they don't like what it really means.

kiwisub12 -> RE: Meaning of the word "slut" (7/6/2011 3:52:57 AM)

I think its called the evolution of the English language.

Evolution would indicate using words incorrectly, ignorantly and changing the meaning was a positive thing. I would argue it was rather than evolution of language, it was far more hijacking and misinterpretation becoming mainstream.

LadyConstanze -> RE: Meaning of the word "slut" (7/6/2011 4:27:11 AM)

The dictionary defines it as such:

1.
a. A person, especially a woman, considered sexually promiscuous.
b. A woman prostitute.
2. A slovenly woman; a slattern.

So apparently there is no word for a guy who's sexually promiscuous, so that would make it alright, or should we call those guys studs?

The best definition for the word I have seen is this:

A Slut is a Woman with the Morals of a Man

More Misandry just because you don't like a words meaning.

Hmm i actually quite like the word and as long as it is being used in the right way for me (ie in the middle of being used shamelessly by several men), then i love being called a slut. Slag however is not ok and anyone using it would be dealt with swiftly by my new Domme side lol!

This is precisely the dialog I was hoping for. I do think philslave is right in that mainstream culture clearly uses the word in derogatory sense, but I LIKE what kiwisub says. The word can be applied with love, and yes, many women here revel in their sexuality and have adopted the term, turning it on its head and declaring themselves sluts proudly. The use on CM is so interesting.

Slut has been a term of endearment for me for a long time.  Rarely have i ever used the word to demean a woman.  Cunt is a term of endearment too.  Not calling her a cunt but referring to her vagina as a cunt.  It is a very strong word much in the same way that cock is a much stronger word than dick.  That of course is based on the "k" in front and an equally strong consonant like a c or t rather than a vowel at the end.

I hate the word with a passion - but it is useful as a filter....

I see "slut" in a sub's profile (or esp screen name), I've read enough and head for the 'X' in the top right corner.

Focus.

I hear ya but simply because she is using the word "slut" doesn't necessarily mean that she is a "disloyal slut".  Promiscuity can take many forms and her expressions of her slutiness could all be exclusive to your relationship.

I'll tell you what makes me hit the "X" button and instantly hide the profile from view is someone who says they are looking for a relationship but then asks for money to weed out those who aren't serious.  I can think of a variety of choice names to describe pieces of s**t who do that.

But if someone identifies with the word in a positive way, is that a bad thing? i suppose saying that, that i would have never called myself "slut" of my own accord inititally. Master labelled me with it and as such i associate it with happy and good feelings. His use of the word has enabled me to become free of the negative connotations that i had given it in my previous life and thus freed me sexually. Would you say that is a bad thing?

Don't use words you really don't understand, we've all seen how well you understand things, especially the meaning of the word slave...

So which word do we have for a promiscuous man?

Now do tell, what happened, since you were actively looking for dominant women, switch women, femdom couples and wanted to join a poly household? Too many rejections and now you label the women as sluts? Heather might have a point here, don't you think?

kalikshama -> RE: Meaning of the word "slut" (7/6/2011 5:20:02 AM)

In The Ethical Slut, "the authors define the term slut as "a person of any gender who has the courage to lead life according to the radical proposition that sex is nice and pleasure is good for you." The term is reclaimed from its usual use as a pejorative and as a simple label for a promiscuous person. Instead, it is used to signify a person who is accepting of their enjoyment of sex and the pleasure of intimacy with others, and chooses to engage and accept these in an ethical and open way — rather than as cheating."

Whoa. So when you call me a slut, you're actually implying that I'm a *woman*?

Them's fightin' words, sister . . . .
