Have you had the LEEP procedure? What was it like? Pain? Complications? Did you have to have it done a second time? How long were you [knocked] out? When did you return to work? Did it effect 'play' with your partner? What you could or could not do?

I am set to have this procedure as soon as it can be arranged. Yup, I am scared, and if you have had this, you understand why {note: cryotherapy failed, I had that in Jan of this year, if that makes any difference}. My mother and bestfriend will be there so I have a ride home [and a LOT of emotional support]; and my bestfriend will take my munchkin to and from daycare if needed depending on when this is scheduled, so that is taken care of.

ANY information on your personal expereinec is helpfull. I have seen the sites and read the pamphlets, but its different hearing it from others who have been through this.

Thanks in advance. :o)

Thanks for the link, I have that one bookmarked somewhere. I have looked at over 20 links and a few things in medical books, they don't do much except make me cringe and wanna back out, backing out is NOT an option. [too many people would literally hog-tie me and take me to the doctor's office.. not that that would be a bad thing {evil grin}]

I am very interested in real life expereinces and info from those who have had it. If you dont' want to post them, feel free to email me. I would be very much appreciative.

I had it done more than 10 years ago.  It is uncomfortable, but not painful.  Sure it is freaky to have anyone doing anything "down there" (that we didn't WANT to consent to) and that is where most of the anxiety lies.  Honestly I did not find it any worse than the cryo.

You will be fine, you will be sore, but no more so than from a period.  Take the afternoon off and treat yourself  to something that you enjoy.  And be proud of yourself, you are taking control of your reproductive and sexual health!

Way to go girl!

I had done it about 3 yrs ago. It wasn't painful, but then I was fantacizing that Master was doing medical stuff to me, that really helps LOL. There is some bleeding afterwards but that's about all. Then you probably need to be rechecked about every 4 months for awhile until you get a normal pap. Remember that you may still carry the HPV virus (if that is the reason you are having it done) and shouldn't be spreading it, and condoms aren't protection for it.

Edited to add that if you are infected with HPV and not monogomous, you should let anyone that you have been intimate with know so that they can tell their other partners to get a pap to be sure they don't develop cervical cancer.  If it's a non wart variety the men won't show any symptoms but can transmit it.

I had a LEEP about 2 years ago now. There was some cramping during it but afterwards I got up, drove home, went back to work and forgot about it. The only thing I would be careful about is not to overextend yourself for about 3 weeks. I ended up with a heavy bleed three weeks later after doing way too much heavy lifting.
But dont fear it. You'll be ok down the road. Its just part of the process. Stay up with it and do what you have to. Dont overthink it. Read everything you can but then let it go. Be diligent with the exam schedual afterwards. But just remember. This is a very common procedure. You're in and out in about an hour.

Thanks sophia. I have heard everything from a lot of pain to like you said, me being able to drive yourself home afterwards; I was told to have someone drive me afterwards due the drugs they will use to 'put me under.' My munchkin knows I won't be able to carry him so thats not a problem. I'm staying diligent on this stuff, that's why they are going this soon. I am scared, but the support I am receiving is great and it's helping me to relax.

I was not put under for this at all.  I just hopped on the bus and went home.  As Sophia said, you will be able to go back to work afterwards, but if you were looking for an excuse to have an afternoon of indulgence.....that is just my way of looking at it.  Be safe and diligent about your follow up appointments.

I was told they will use 'conscious sedation.' A combination of three drugs to knock me out and eliviate the pain. I was told I cannot drive home afterwards and I should go home and rest, plus I will be given a prescription in case I need it. Maybe its because I am post failed cryotherapy.

Thanks for the positive expereinces, it makes me feel a LOT better.

My experience was very similiar to angelfaces', no sedation at all, it was performed as a day surgery and I drove myself home after the procedure. There was some intense cramping during the procedure and a small bit of discomfort for about 8 hours after.

****UPDATE****

I am going in for the consultation on the 5th of June and the surgery will be scheduled asap after that. I'm nervious but at least I have a date and my anxiety will drop.

Thanks for all the testimonials, but I was told that either none of you had the same procedure, you were NOT post-cryo, it was not as serious or they didn't remove a lot of tissue. Typically with this procedure you go in early, about 7:30 or so and leave that afternoon sometime [after 3pm] and are on pain meds for up to 2 weeks and NO work for one or two weeks. Healing time is two weeks or so and I am NOT allowed to drive myself home since I will be on narcotics for at least the first few days. No going back to work or driving me home, since they make the person who is driving me home sign something stating that they will drive me home and NOT let me behind the wheel.

From the few other people I have spoken with off-site have confirmed that I was told by the doctor's office and american medical association, so I will go by that.

Thanks for the positive expereinces but evidently we are talking about something completly different.

Remember, "conscious sedation" is the act of keeping a patient calm, still, and pain-free, without putting them under.  You keep talking about going under, but you won't be unconscious.  You'll be consciously sedated.  :)  Ever got wisdom teeth out?  This is what they did to me when I got mine out.  I took a pill (I believe it was diazepam, an antianxiety medication).  Then I got an IV which they gave me something else to sedate me a bit, and then I breathed some NO2 (laughing gas).  I was awake, could open and close my mouth on command, and I remember some of the procedure.  But I was never out cold.  I didn't feel any pain.  This is probably how it'll be for you.  Good luck.

PS: Did you get my message about 10 days ago?  You wanted my email address, so I sent it... and then never heard from you.  Sometimes I think the message system here is broken.

I was told its a mixture of 3 drugs, one is a muscle relaxant, another is for pain and their is a third that does something else; I still have my wisdom teeth. I told them I wanna be knocked out and that may be an option, if so, I wanna be out cold. I foudn out a while ago, my bestfriend maybe able to be in the room when it's done, I hope so. I may not remember her being there, but at least I will know she is there and holding my hand. If she cannot be in the room, she will be there after the procedure is over.

Thanks for letting me know about conscious sedation, I have a beter idea of what I am getting into now at least on that area, I appreciate the help.

{i did get your message, but i have not been in that account. i will check it as soon as i get off my nilla email; i've been doing work stuff}

No worries - it just seemed that it might have gotten swallowed by the cm mail monster.  I reply to every message sent me, but get perhaps a 20% return rate, even when the other person iniated contact.  Weird.

Sounds like you'll be awake to some degree, which is good.  You'll have very little side effects afterward like nausea, confusion, having to lie in bed for many hours until all the anaesthetics are out of your system, etc.
