Fightdirecto -> RE: Zona`s "Papers Please" guy, gets recalled. (7/11/2011 9:36:53 AM)

My ancestors came to what was then the American colonies in 1645 from Ireland. Several of them fought in the Continental Army during the American Revolution and my family have been American citizens since the nation was founded. However, the genes have been strong and people I meet often remark that I "look Irish".

I will never go to Arizona until it is safe for me to travel through the state and not have to be worried that some small-town Barney Fife doesn't arrest me on suspicion of being an illegal Irish immigrant because I "look Irish" and won't accept my Massachusetts drivers license as proof that I'm an American (after all, Fox-News and radio talk radio, also known as the Right-Wing media, has told him that illegal aliens get driver's licenses in Massachusetts - so it must be a fact).

I should not have to carry my U.S. passport at all times while travelling in any of the 50 United State to "prove" to some hick cop I'm not an illegal alien.

The opening post is a false statement to begin with. Randy Parraz is an idiot. Russell Pierce will not be recalled until he loses a recall election.

mnottertail -> RE: Zona`s "Papers Please" guy, gets recalled. (7/11/2011 11:30:49 AM)

Wrongo, as usual sport.  He has been recalled according to statute, he can either resign or stand the recall election.  If he wins he wins, but he wins his recall election.  (I really don't see how he is gonna slink by this in any case).

If there even is one, since he's up for reelecton in 2012 anyway?

Even your reading comprehension can't be bad enough to miss this,

"Within 15 days, Gov. Brewer must set the date for the recall election, which presumably will take place in November."

There will be an election or do you suggest Brewer just ignore her legal obligations?

What part of "presumably" dont you understand?

Probably referring to you (apparently) not understanding the difference between a "re-election" vs "recall election".  Were you figuring that the recall election would be moved to coincide with the Nov 2012 re-election?

Since the "presumably" was in reference to the recall election, obv I know the difference. I don't know how much flexibility she has on setting the date, and may have flexibility to delay it to 2012 because of the cost.

The "presumably" you speak of is in reference to WHEN the recall election will be held, not IF it will be held.

They are "presuming" that the date will be set in November and Brewer has to set the date in the next 15 days.

mnottertail -> RE: Zona`s "Papers Please" guy, gets recalled. (7/11/2011 3:05:54 PM)

Looks maybe like he will be able to finish his term due to a) a 'faulty' ruling on timetables by a republican election official (jesus, are we ever going to get a republican in there that will actually if not be able to read the law, act according to and defend existing law? at least until it is changed?) b) giving the lawless republican goons and thugs down there the option of calling it in March (after his term is up in November).

If she delays the election it will be for political reasons which will cost her.

Directo, I have dual U.S.- Irish citizenship (Grparents from Donegal/Sligo.)
I've driven through Ari, N.M. Tex many times while I had a Massachusetts D.L. (Woburn) and had no problems.
They actually liked my "Boston Accent."

I have to come out in support of Directo in this manner.  Northerners (often from Massachusetts, but sometimes from NuYawk or N'Jewsy) get into trouble in the South, or even in rural areas, and now in Arizona.

The local law enforcement "Barney Fifes" are such numbskull fucking idiots, with no clue about the "real Americans" and how "real Americans"  should be worshiped and given their due obsequious.

After all, those who can trace their blue blood back to the Revolutionary War  (unlike those no-pedigree-mongrel-trailer-trash-bastards who they allow to play at being real Americans) should bow down and genuflect at their feet every chance they get.  Such opportunities for enlightenment don't come often, yanno.

Nowadays, the terrible crime of lèse majesté is committed daily in those crummy little podunk fucking towns, (where they bitterly cling to their guns and religion) ... of course they (the local "law" enforcement types) are going to be on the look-out for their sainted, intelligent and forward-thinking betters, and accost them because their tiny hearts are filled with hatred and envy (and because their minds are tiny and filled with information not blessed by the New York Times) for they are envious and jealous of the truly exalted ones that are the only True Americans ...

Hell, they are likely even ... Republicans!

I'm all wet about what exactly? The numbers are what they are. Marginal improvements in numbers that are already in the millions is laughable.

No, actually you don't. Just as I'm confident I'd never have been asked for it in Arizona, either. Because the language in the bill stated officers were to ask for such things if they had reason to suspect an individual they were already detaining/pulling over was in the country illegally.

No argument here. But pursuing one group doesn't mean we should let the other group skate. Attack the problem from both ends and the chances of solving it increase dramatically. If the people know that they will be carded *and* that the pool of potential employers is rapidly shrinking, they will leave much faster. If they do not fear having their status checked, they will likely remain longer while they continue to seek out employers willing to risk hiring them.

You honestly avoid Arizona because you think they might arrest you for being Irish?

not sure if that is scary or sad or both.

Darquemirror suggests the solution can be found in attacking the problem from both ends....and I can not agree more strongly....the only way we will reduce our deficit issues is to attack the problem .....oh wait, this is about illegal immigration.
So sorry,my bad...carry on [8|]

Fightdirecto -> RE: Zona`s "Papers Please" guy, gets recalled. (7/12/2011 9:48:44 AM)

The present Arizona law allows any law enforcent officer in Arizona to stop ANYONE who the officer believes is not an American citizen and require proof of citizenship, a Green Card or a foreign passport that shows they are legally in the United States. If that person cannot do so to the satisfaction of the officer, they can be thrown in jail until their status can be verified.

How many American citizens carry their U. S. passports with them while traveling within the 50 states? That is the only form of ID that some Barney Fife can't reject as valid proof of American citizenship. If you are an American citizen, do you carry your U. S. passport whenever you cross a state line? If you don't have your passport, how can you prove to some hick Arizona cop that you're an American citizen? Are you prepared to spend part of your business or vacation trip to Arizona in a jail cell in some one-horse Arizona town waiting to get released by INS because the local sheriff thinks you "don' look American"?

How many American citizens don't even have a passport?
