However, I can just imagine the republican out cry had a democratic politician pointed a gun at somebody and then tried to explain it away with "he stepped in front of it".

Status: offline 		Oh relax!  The first thing I was taught about firearms is that the only time you point one at a human being is when you are going to shoot them.  If she demonstrated the super-coolness of the laser sighting system, that was reckless and juvenile and she needs a reprimand and another gun safety course.

As far as carrying a gun is concerned, it is legal in many states and, if you don't like it, don't move to one of them.  In Arkansas, you can't carry concealed without a permit but you can carry openly anywhere.  So a bunch of guys with six guns on their hips in regular style western holsters don't even cause anyone to look up.  You see it in general stores, farmers co-ops, cafes and truck stops and people don't even bat an eye.

For all of you that are soooo terrified of guns, go shooting.  You will find that you enjoy it a great deal more than you ever thought you could. :)

Status: offline 		And...by the way...a Ruger .380 is a very nice gun but I still prefer the Walther ppk-s.  Sig Sauer makes a real dandy also.

I hear what you are saying but I'm not sure how you want them tightened.  If you have been treated for mental illness, you can't own a gun.  If you are a convicted felon, you can't own a gun.  If you have been convicted of domestic violence, you can't own a guy.  In all states there is a 3 day waiting period to buy from a gun shop.  In all states that I am aware of, you have to pass a test to carry concealed.  You need a Federal Firearms license to own a fully automatic gun and that is usually reserved for gun dealers. 

Look...if she pointed the gun at someone, that was .......well......technically that would be an assault.  If the guy walked in front of her, she was still in the wrong because if you are going to show someone your (really...it is tres cool) laser sight, you dislodge the clip, clear the slide and aim at your own foot.  So...should she be reprimanded?  Any way you slice it, it sounds like what she did was reckless.

Status: offline 		Not for nothing, I don't find this thread anywhere NEAR as compelling as Ireland's bonds getting downgraded.  One nitwit being careless in an incident, thankfully, without injury isn't as ominous as the storm brewing in Europe that will most certainly hit here as well.

In most states, that law only pertains if you have been in the state mental hospital. But most of them are closed nowadays and the laws have not been updated. Still, I am mentally ill, but have no history of violence, except that which has been directed toward me. My son is also mentally ill--and nonviolent. Neither of should be allowed to own a gun because we have a mental illness? That sounds like discrimination to me.
