ORIGINAL: LadyConstanze I seriously can't stand most of the Beatles stuff, in fact most of it I HATE, it might have been revolutionary in their time, but that was my mom's time and not mine, if I have to take that period, then I would say the best band out of that time would be The Who. The Who were a great band, one of the best of the 60's but I feel their albums were too inconsistent especially in the 60's to really compare with The Beatles. I feel they were really in their element as a live band. Even a classic like "Tommy" is pretty flawed on disc two and A Quick One is fairly poor although I quite like it. Seems to me their best is "The Who Sell Out" which is an exceptional and very underrated album. I suppose though that it all comes down to taste. For a long time I didn't like the Beatles at all. I made a serious effort to listen to their stuff after I heard one of their lesser known album tracks that I liked but was new to me. I began to realise how much their music is embedded in our culture! Inconsistent indeed and I agree "Who Sell Out " is probably their best closely followed by (the much overplayed, at least in the US) "Who's Next". To me "Behind Blue Eyes" is their most complete song, but "Eminence Front" is their real hiddn gem.
