slaveluci -> Help finding a short story........... (7/24/2011 12:44:02 PM)

I have been trying to find a short story that I read years back. I can remember that it was in a mass market paperback compilation of short stories but I cannot remember if they were all by one author or different ones. The basics of the plot - to the best of my recall ability are this - : *Young female reporter goes to interview what I think was an old black man in the south. * I remember that he was sitting on the porch of his little shack and there was something about a suitcase hidden under his bed. *She trusted him and didn't feel fear but what it boiled down to was that he used to be a killer (can't remember if she knew this and that's WHY she was interviewing him or not). Turns out, he still was dangerous and I believe he ended up murdering her. One of the points of the story was that once a dangerous killer, always one - no matter how old. It was a suspenseful read, very vivid in its imagery and I remember really liking it. For some reason, the author Dennis Etchison wants to pop into my mind as the author but I spent hours googling a few months back and can't seem to tie it to him or find what it is anywhere. Does anyone remember having read such a story and, if so, will you please remind me of the title/author? Much obliged...........luci
