What a fine example we have here of internet on-line fantasy and real life reality. As I write this post there have been 83 responses other than ours. Lots of “votes”, lots of recommendations, lots of “I/i’m gonnas”, lots of “let me know”. It reminds me of my youth.
My parents had a pool, the first in the family. Every year their would be a big party at the house during Memorial Day Weekend where my 14 aunts, uncles, and the plethora of associated first, second, and third cousins would show up to see the back yard and pool in pristine condition. My parents didn’t believe in a landscaper, or pool boy, or even a winter pool cover. “Why do I need a cover? That’s why we had a son!” As everyone sat and enjoyed the atmosphere they’d say; “gee – why didn’t you call us to help you get the place ready for summer?” And every year my father would say, well, we start about the first of May. Even in NJ the first of May came around EVERY year, and for 10 years between the age of 12 – 22 ‘Merc’ was out there solo. Yes, as a responsible Italian son I did this even after I didn’t live there! One year I got so pissed that I opened and maintained the pool for the entire summer but never swam in it – (If they noticed, I’d bet that would have REALLY affected them!)
The point is, as my ‘Administrative Assistant’ for the Vegas trip, ‘ProtagonistLily’ will bear out, there are a lot of ‘wanting’ people but not a lot of ‘doing’ people. We went to Vegas instead of LA, because a large group of people said that would be easier to get to than LA; only 3 people flew in. We picked the Stratosphere instead of Caesar’s or Venetian because of cost considerations and the fact that I knew the reservations manager at Stratosphere and got a ‘special rate’; we only booked 2 rooms. We reserved a play place and I fronted the cost and divided it on a per person basis of $10/person; many who were “gonna pay” that night, came, played, and ‘forgot’ to bring their wallet. No complaints – just reporting pragmatically the reality of organizing something like this.
It didn’t matter to me, we had a GREAT time. The local Vegas people welcomed us with open arms. A member of the Vegas community opened their house to us and we had a great social party where we watched our private Folsom DVD that beth produces annually. We added a local group’s Munch. As I said at the time, if nobody showed up and it was only beth & I playing at the club it still would have been fun!
The way to do this is pick a spot, pick a date, outline activities, name a price, and qualify it by saying that ‘X’ amount of deposits must be received by “X” date or the get together is canceled. Lodging, travel, food (except as noted in the outline) isn’t included.

When: July 28-30, 2006
Where: LA (South Bay Area)
What: July 28th – Welcome Social / House Play Party
July 29th – Club outing (Location TBD)
Cost: $50.00 / person payable by July 1st 2006. All funds will be used to reserve facility rental and admission. A detailed accounting will be provided. Any funds not used will be refunded. If the number of confirmations isn’t sufficient to cover the cost of the facility by the July 1st date the event will be cancelled and all money refunded.
I’d be happy to organize it again. Beth and I love meeting people. Our home is always open to visitors. I am sure that many from our local South Bay Munch Group would join us. But my guess is that it will mostly be LA people in attendance. There are damn good reasons why. It’s expensive to get anywhere, by any manner. I bought my first car for as much as it costs now to fill up the tank. Few people go on vacations at all, let alone one exclusive to self indulgent “perversion”. Sure there is plenty to see and do in LA, but a separate ‘unmentionable’ program and sitting service isn’t included in the deal.
If anyone goes through the process someplace else and organizes an event, let us know. We’ll check our calendar and if possible we’ll be there. (Even Sydney!) I guarantee we’ll be at Folsom again this year in September. There is always the idea of CM people meeting during that weekend, but most people who go there already have their ‘dance cards’ full.
