defiantbadgirl -> sex after knife cone biopsy (8/1/2011 8:56:33 AM)

I'm currently on the special Medicaid program for cervical cancer. My cone biopsy/hysterectomy were originally scheduled for 7/14/11, but my gynocologist didn't perform the hysterectomy at that time because the lab screwed up (it was adenocarcinoma in situ and not invasive after all). My hysterectomy has been rescheduled for 8/9/11 and Medicaid is canceling my health insurance on 8/30/11. That's only 3 weeks after my hysterectomy! What if I have complications? I also need health insurance for frequent follow up paps to make sure the adeno doesn't recur in my vagina. My employer does not provide health insurance and there's no way I can afford high risk premiums. My fiance and I decided it's too dangerous for me to be without coverage. We're now getting married this Wednesday in Las Vegas so he can add me to his health insurance policy (they can't use pre-existing conditions if there's no lapse in coverage because of HIPAA). We plan to have a traditional wedding (vow renewal) for our families next year. Unfortunately, this doesn't change the fact that my doctor took a large chunk from my cervix on 7/14/11. We want to have sex on our wedding night. Some sites say to abstain for 2-3 weeks after a knife cone biopsy and others say 4-6 weeks. I stopped bleeding a week and a half ago. Is it safe for us to have sex on our wedding night as long as he's careful and wears a condom? My doctor is booked up and hard to reach.

So you're asking here? You are better off asking another doctor, who will know better than we would. An online board isn't the best place to ask.

Good luck sweetie,

Zeph

Your lab, which is controlled, certified, governed and licensed by various national and state agencies for competency and proficiency supposedly "screwed up", and can't be trusted, but you trust the Collar Me forum for medical advice?

Brilliant. Just fucking brilliant.

Hillwilliam -> RE: sex after knife cone biopsy (8/1/2011 9:38:28 AM)

Sex doesn't have to be vaginal.

My TOTALLY unmedically educated opinion is "Give the vag a break" You have other ways to play.

wandersalone -> RE: sex after knife cone biopsy (8/1/2011 9:52:05 AM)

oh jeeze,  if your doctor is busy then ring his rooms and tell them your question and say you will call them back the next day or something for the answer.

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding.

When are you going to stop asking people on the interwebz for advice and get a second opinion  from a doctor?

Someone asks a question and you have a problem with it ?

Wow.

Yes, fuck like they do it on the Discovery channel. Make sure to beg him to please use the biggest dildo you can find. If there is pain and blood, don't worry a bit, just go to your happy place in your head and realize it is good. Douche with pure apple cider vinegar, then have him do you with a huge cucumber. You can then have a great salad.

Or, you could ask your doctor.

I say if you don't do what I said, you aint twue though.

Very funny. I plan to continue trying to reach my doctor. This is the health section of the boards and people post on here all the time asking health related questions.

Drat...what a snark fest.

defiantbadgirl...congrats on your upcoming marriage.  I wish you both the very best.  He sounds like a great guy, not running from all of this and going his best to take care of your medical needs in the future.  Around nine years ago when all my cancer drama started, people around me acted like it was contageous and melted away.  This man has BALLS.  [;)]

Labs do screw up sometimes.  There was a huge scandal over twenty years ago about labs being sent slides to look at, but to save money the slides were given only about 30 seconds for each.  Not enough time to check all of it thoroughly.  When investigated, women who had been told they were fine actually had cancer or precancerous cells.  Am glad you and your doctor got to the bottom of it and found out that it is "adenocarcinoma in situ and not invasive at all."  That must have been a big relief...in spite of knowing you will have to keep a careful watch for a while...that this surgery might be the end of this.

Pssst...my cancer came back several times, but I have been in remission for the past five years.  Yaaaay!  I am still here and enjoying the H out of my life.

You are doing everything you should, like listening to your doctor (sometimes when we are upset it is hard to download everything and it might be wise to bring a small tape recorder, or to not be alone...bring someone else with you).  You might not be able to afford a second opinion, and if you feel you need one...I am sure you and your M will handle it.

Right now you are probably wanting to hear from those who have experienced coning, and can tell you of their experience and what their doctors advised them about having sex afterward.  Sometimes you can ask half a dozen doctors and get different instructions from each.

My advice?  Buy some flowers at Walmart.  Take it to your doctor's receptionist and thank her for being part of the team who is helping you through this tough time.  Explain that you are getting married on Wednesday and you really neeeeeed to find out if you may have sex on your wedding night.  If you whisper this to her...  Few words, pleading eyes.  Maybe she will help you have some brief contact with your doctor, even if you just pass notes...and he says yes or no, or says yes but with a condom or sets other limits.

If you cannot get an answer from him, or if he says not for another few weeks...gawd, you can have some very wild sex without the usual vagina/penis penetration part.  [;)]  As long as you feel...completely used and loved up and exhausted...

Best wishes to you on getting your doc to pass you a note that's a nookie permission slip.

Oh!  I just thought of something.  Phone 1-800-4-CANCER and there is all kinds of free information they will send you about your cancer and getting financial help, as well as other things.  If you send me a message on the other side, I can also find you a support group, maybe for others who have had the exact same cancer you are dealing with...and some might have had the coring and sex issue come up.  Looks like you did well on your own though, finding out that some people who have had corings of their cervix have had sex after two weeks, or soon after when the bleeding stopped.

Again, best wishes for you both. [:)]

I just went and searched the Health and Safety section to be sure I didn't have DBG confused with another poster.

I stand by my snark. This has been going on too long for me to buy it as being true.

If I am wrong, well, I can live with that if it gets her to ask the damn doctor instead of coming on here for months on end, asking for advice regarding cancer.

HIPAA covers medical information.  I fail to see how it applies here.

Why is Medicaid cancelling your coverage?

No snark here okay?

However, it was explained to you the differences between the 2 parts of the same lab and how results can differ and how it isn't really a screw up.

HIPPA has nothing to do with health insurance.

As for getting your answer, from your doctor: ask to speak to her nurse, ask the question and call back later in the day for the answer, but in the paperwork they handed you after the procedure the answer may already be there.

As for medicaid cancelling your coverage 3 weeks after surgery, that does seem premature.  If you were to have complications before the date of cancellation no doubt there would be a contigency and it would continue.

Anyway, Happy nuptials, good luck with surgery and all.

She got coverage for cervical cancer, when they actually did the bioposy they found pre-cancer which while associated with a increased risk of cancer (already mutated cells) is not cancer.  Therefore she's not eligible for medicaid on the basis of having cancer - but they will cover the procedure to limit the changes of her developing cancer.  After that there would be no reason for her to quality...

I do not know were the poster is located but here in Indiana, Hippa is the Nic for the Healthy Indiana plan, a low or no cost insurance for the low income or under insured. It is entirely different than Medicaid. It is most often applied for at the hospital when you either are being seen for a special issue or are admitted through the ER without insurance.

Iamsemisweet -> RE: sex after knife cone biopsy (8/10/2011 7:54:26 AM)

Sorry for your health issues, congrats on your marriage.
Look, if someone on here tells you it is OK to have sex and you end up getting a terrible infection, what are you going to do? Sue them for malpractice? No one here is qualified to comment on this, particularly without knowing more about you and your situation.
However, in the absence of an opinion from a qualified person, I would err on the side of caution. If that means abstaining for 6 weeks, then abstain. "one night of sin" in Vegas, even if it is your wedding night, is not worth any long term consequences to your health.
The health care system in this Country sucks.
