...................However, you still do not have to be rich (just middle class) to buy into a gated guarded community where the crime rate is lower, less pedophiles, etc...

Are you saying that cuz you arent uber rich that you dont think at times about violence and your own safety?

I'm quite sure unless they screen specifically for pedophiles, the gates aren't keeping them out. I would venture to say among the very rich, there's probably a higher percentage. Money can buy silence and protection from prosecution.

ETA: My 12 pound Min-pin (that I got for free) gives everyone pause.

One of the reasons why I just finished my degree for Pedagogics and Psychology without ever wanting to work in the field was an internship where I worked with sexually abused children, apart from being very challenging and exhausting (I was a shivering mess at the end of the 3 months internship) it was an eye opener, it really goes through all levels of society. A gated community is not going to help against friends, family or neighbours molesting your child, in very rare cases it's a stranger.

As time goes on, I discover more and more people in my immediate family that were sexually molested. Not one of us was the victim of a stranger or person that had not been welcomed into our lives and home.

yes, I stand corrected, I should have said "registered sex offenders". And yes, there are a lot less of them in that community. The population is approx 11,000 and there are only 3 sex offenders living there..

Eta -the crime rate is a lot lower and so are the number of fatal accidents much lower than the state average.

no, of course a gated guarded community will not stop a rapist, robber or scam artist you let in the door yourself. I just know that the crime rate in that community is considerably lower than the average. How should one determine the cause of much lower crime?
