Not to pick nits but... I haven't read much John Norman as I wholeheartedly agree with slaverosebeauty about his, umm, writing skills.  But I have read a lot of Shakespeare.  The phrase is, "much ado about nothing."

No I think its "a big todo about anything" , lol. [:D]

Out?  You mean like to places where people actually do this stuff, rather than sit at a keyboard all day and pontificating about it?

I read the article in the Daily Express, and it was appauling. Really closed-minded and scathing. some of the lexical choices were very manipulative- my mother turned round and told me she thought the Master had "evil eyes". What on earth.

lol.......I'm smiling at your mother's comment.

I wouldn't expect any less from the Daily Express... or the Daily Mail...as a rule, if there is the slightest opportunity to inject a *sleaze or sex* aspect into a *story* that's what they'll do. They can  sensationalise the most mundane story.

The BBC version was fact based and unbiased and  a *storm in a tea cup* is the best description of the whole thing.

I listened to a radio interview with the chap in question , Lee Thompson, and he presented himself rather well. He also gave more details about why the girl burned her passport and return ticket....

...According to him, she came here thinking he was wealthy , found he wasn't, decided to leave but stay in the UK, illegally, so she burned her documents. He had *words* with her and was cross that she'd done that. After he'd adminished her, she called a friend in the US, who contacted the police  because of her * no documentation situation* , not because she was being *held unwillingly*.

The bare facts as presented by the BBC ... The participants are all there voluntarily and there are no grounds for police involvement.

Once you blow away the smoke , that's ALL there is left.

agirl

(The BBC mentioned that there were an *estimated 25,000 Goreans worldwide*......( no idea how they reached that figure though))

Actually, yes.  I made the screenname after coming out of a long, umm, hybernation of the soul, so to speak, early last year.  It started out as "Rip_van_Harry" as a messenger name, but then when I was creating my gmail account, I realized that this name worked better.

Now, if only I could send emails on collarme.

Oh, my god, I so have to work on creating a series of books that will inspire people to live a certain lifestyle....
(am I joking or not?)

Next time you meet Laura ask how it feels... but stand a bit back and brace yourself.  [laughing]

Of course, her biggest problem is not people aping her plots but insisting the books are non-fiction and how can they get involved.

Oh, the hell with looking for Mr. Goodbar. I'm looking for Chris Parker. I will find him eventually. No way are you people going to convince me that he's a fictional character. So there. I'll prove this. You just wait. And wait. And keep on waiting. [:D]

Speaking of books, did my fourth one get to you yet, John?

Oh, ghod, I hate it when people say this to me, but I'll have to be honest and say... yes, I've got it but I haven't gotten time to read it yet.

[holding head in hands and shuddering]

I really am looking forward to reading it, but since our local kinky book discussion group has it scheduled for a few months from now, I've been putting it off until then.

Fox's illustrations are quite nice.  I really like the one for "Circle of Blood."

For anyone wondering, the book we are talking about is Eroscapes from Wall Street Publishing

You have to understand that the British Conservative movement is obsessed with people NOT having vanilla sex let alone anything other than a quick hop on - do the biz and hop off and sleep!

No sex we're British resounds around the world - yet it's OK for the upper-class to do as they wish, it's just the done thing, what!

It was a reasonable question; it's only the answer that's embarrassing

They burned her passport, well, that doesn't sound like she can leave anytime she wants, now does it?!

Well, the article says she burned it.  But then again, the reports that I have seen on various events, that I was involved in, and was present at the same time the media figure who wrote the published account, have never had more than the barest association with each other.
If ANY of the facts are right, they are presented in the wrong context.  Nothing I've seen presented in print or on the tube has any more connection to the real events than an episode of Law and Order.  It's not so much that they are trying to  promote any agenda, but rather most newsies are poorly educated and incompetent.

If I burned my passport, I'd be forced to go to the US Embasy, and ask for a new one.  Hardly an insurmountable chore.

whiteslave66 -> RE: Slave sect is fine by us... say UK police (11/9/2006 12:01:18 PM)

they said "women can be dominant".  ?   allowed?  hot

Greetings,

I'm curious as to why it would be important to disect a man's grammar. Perhaps you find him unworthy of your attention, if so overlook him. Is Shakespeare the standard for great grammar? Was his bad grammar a reason to misunderstand his point? Or perhaps you just find it entertaining to accost a Gorean, as many do?
And I will say, natuarl order does exist. Just look around you.

I wish you all well,

Bull

koimizu -> RE: Slave sect is fine by us... say UK police (11/15/2006 2:58:00 AM)

What is the most interesting is that the focus is on it being supposedly a fully Gorean cult but it states in the article that they are an off-shoot of the Gor lifestyle itself.

While familiar with aspects of Gorean practices, i will say that it is plausible the woman came there voluntarily and remained there for the same reasons.  The idea of women being submissive by nature is...flawed in ways.  Not all of them but some.

However, a cornerstone of Gor in the Real World is very closely linked to submission in that the real power rests with those who yeild it to their Dominants.

Again...my poor .02

"As well as obeying the sexual commands of her male partner, she is also made to cook and clean."

*gasp* Cook? Clean? What kind of sick people are these??

And what i'm wondering about most is...they're just discovering this now? Even before i knew about bdsm, i knew about Goreans because of the Tuchuks at Pennsic. It's not hard to know about alternative lifestyles; i guess some people just like to be ignorant and tell themselves it's not possible.

*shrug* Like Nosathro said, "much ado about nothing"

But the majority of women in our organisation are obviously slaves because women have a submissive streak in them."

What a load of crap that statement is. Otherwise if it is conscensual, leave them alone. If it really wasn't , the burning passport thing, then thats wrong.

I would be in the "not all are Goreans" category. There is indeed a natural order. If one cares not for that phrase, perhaps "animal default" would suffice. [;)]

I think "socio-political status quo" is a little more accurate.

People who think male dominance has anything directly to do with "human nature" or "animal nature" know very little about either.  [;)]

Greetings List,

This person was evidently retarded, stupid or out to just plain cause trouble. Instead of getting the local media involved, She could have gone to the local US or Canadian embassy and declared she lost her passport. They would have interviewed her finger printed her and processed her for another passport. Usually the said country keeps record of all  passports and has duplicate copies of the passports on file for in case this happens.

They would have easily identified the girl via birth certificates and other vital records. What this girl did was wrong and stupid instead she attracted unwanted attention to the Lifestylers of the said country. She probably did not get her way, soooooo to start trouble she bickered and cries wolf. I just see the word troublemaker. When in fact it was she that was the problem.

She should never had burned her passport even though it was easy enough to regain. I think it is safe to say Masters and Mistresses alike should avoid this person and persons like her. This is why Owners and slaves should get to know each other before a visit. A Owner should explore the said slaves background  both legal and mental, before ever ever letting a slave into his household.
