I could probably come up with some more, but seeing as I'm on the other side, I really shouldn't be helping you out further. I gave you Syphs purely as a gesture of solidarity, Comrade Firm.

That's not bad.

I was going to suggest Borrowers...but that's applicable to both sides these days

Not sure this qualifies ,given the spirit of the thread....but how about we go with something descriptive and true.......like socially conscious?

Yanno, I think the term "Teabagger" and "TEA partier" is pretty handy for a lot of discussions for the left, and it just occurred to me that "us on the right" needed a similar short-hand term to describe a number of our political adversaries as well.

Then, it came to me ... "Fleabaggers" ....

Here is the Wikipedia definition of a Flea:

Fleas are external parasites, living by hematophagy off the blood of mammals (including bats and humans) and birds.

I think this is a good counter to the lefties "Teabaggers", and there is a fair amount of room for an expansion of "fleabagger's" meaning and nuances.

The link above takes you to a more detailed article on fleas, and I think there is plenty of material to relate it to a certain species of leftist politicians, don't you?

What about it, "righties"?  You think it's a useful term?

Firm

I will give my answer before I read any other posts to prevent being swayed one way or another.

To me, the term 'Fleabagger' brings to mind people that go to Flea Markets.

I went to one in Denver about 20 years ago, with my parents when I was 15 or 16. It was interesting.

I do know that some people go frequently and I believe that there are folks that make their livelihood with stalls at Flea Markets.

So, I would have to say that it would not really bring to mind anything political. I would just picture a person that goes to Flea Markets or sells at one.

Not to get into the left-right war of words Firm but how about "moneybaggers"?

Probably more accurate, but not as much emotional "umpf", I don't think.

Firm

If moneybagger doesn't do it for you then how about "Brown Bagger" http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Brown%20bagger - I'm thinking of these definitions in particular:

quote:

3. brown bagger
Someone drinking liquor from a bottle in a brown paper bag. Usually in the street in the unposh parts of town.
Ten brown baggers sitting on the wall. If one brown bagger etc.
buy brown bagger mugs & shirts

quote:

4. brown bagger
When you fuck a guy up the ass who hasnt cleaned out his hole and the condom comes out with poo on it.
I fucked that guy last night but he was a brown bagger - ick!

quote:

6. brown bagger
A person who goes to restraunts or other people's houses to have diarrea. This is a frequent occurance, and often without exchange of pleasentries.
person 1: Yo homes you be brown baggin!
brown bagger: ...

Nahh, just trying to "improve" the terms of debate, by making it easier.

Firm

Let me get this straight.  They Tea Party is a third party.  They even called themselves "Teabaggers" until they realized what it meant.

Now, I do realize its a party made up predominantly of conservatives... many of whom are technically republicans.

But how is using the term "fleabaggers", as you explained in your op, a counter to "teabaggers"?

You are referring to two different groups.

I always thought nutsuckers a good description of the right.

Revise and extended remarks:  The rabid right, not the moderate guys.

No disagreement.  Except we are talking about what to call the rabid left.

Firm

Then you are part of the rabid right?

Not that I am either "left" or "right" but mostly in the middle..but I think you kind of stole that term from after the civil war and the term "carpetbaggers" so I can't give  you credit for a great new word...ha ha..

Although this part of the definition of one at Wikipedia is interesting...

"The term carpetbaggers was also used to describe the Democrat political appointees who came South, arriving with their travel carpet bags. Southerners considered them ready to loot and plunder the defeated South.[1] "

Yeah that's what I was thinking...if you need to write several paragraphs and cite wiki to explain your clever new insult it probably won't catch on.

Firm, do you mean "liberal" just doesn't cut any more? That term has been used as an insult to those on the far left for decades and most ran away from it. I did, but now I carry the term with pride because I am a liberal!

I'm not normally big on these things, Firm.  A word gets invented, some throw it with humor, others just throw it with hate.  We live in the world as it is, though, not in the world as it should be, so...

How about proggy?  Just a shorthand for progressive, which is what they seem to like these days.  As in, "Aww.  The poor proggies got their liberal guilt stepped on."
