There shouldn't be a problem about what to do with illegals, they need to get their asses kicked out of the country. Not such a problem anymore though, the recession has made the US a far less desirable place

Howdy Aneirin, the problem I am having with this topic is, there is a BIG difference in my eyes between legal and illegal immigration.

As far as I know, people have always immigrated from one place to another place.
People should be free to legally immigrate where they want to go.

One of the main issues/problems that we face here in America, is what is or should be, the status of those that come here illegally, and have no intention on leaving here.

Peace

Perhaps you do not fully grasp the sub issuses within that issuse.
Two classes of illegal aliens:
Those who come legally and overstay their visa.
Those who enter illegally.
What about the legal alien who illegally works here?
What about those who enter illegally and return home as a cycle?
How do you feel about u.s. citizens, found to be illegal aliens in another country should be treated?

When I lived in Western Canada, I referred to those Canadians that came to the west from any where east of Alberta as “foreigners”.. I was joking, of course,.. sort of hahaha..
There just is a different mentality between people from various provinces.. my ex was originally from Ontario.. and look how that turned out.. try to mix water and oil..

Well,.. I have already done it.. once, so far.. moved from my birth country to another, at least for a time, not sure at this point if it will be for very long. I will always be a Canadian and reserve my right to move back to take advantage of the health care should I need it! Ha

I don’t like the US govt and the police state they have turned it into… unless there is a serious reason for me to stay put here, meaning I get a future boyfriend that I am very happily living with.. I expect my next stop will be either Turks and Caicos or Costa Rica,. At this point anyway.. but who knows, I could end up in Australia instead.. I have no ties of any consequence now so I can go anywhere, really…

I will say this tho, moving to whatever country (the US or elsewhere), I contribute, contrary to the general stereotype, and I don’t use the medical system, I pay for myself, I don’t have kids that go to school, I did not take anyone’s job, etc. And I would learn the language there as well, if its not English.

I personally think that immigration for certain countries is almost a necessity since the birth rate has dropped and that can cause a country financial problems when too many people retire too fast, like what will happen with the boomers… some countries need more people to make up the slack in dwindling tax revenues..

Jmo..

Tj, good points.
As for the boomers, if our govt in the U.S. wasn't getting us involved in all those "free-trade" deals we'd have millions more taxpayers in this country.
Instead we have third worlders with third grade educations who sneak into our country and begin immediately to steal benefits that they're not entitled to. And many become involved in the drug trade and violence.
The U.S. is a mature country now and we simply don't need a lot of immigration anymore, certainly not lawn jockeys or landscapers.
And we shouldn't be letting in a million and a half people per year. More like 100,00 to 200,000 a year and those with needed skills in medicine, engineering and the like. Not hotel maids who claimed to have been "raped" in their own countries! That's a *local police matter* in their own countries not a reason to try to get into the U.S. Those "refugee" and "asylum" programs are loaded with scams and we need to get out of them!
"I don't like the U.S. govt or the police state they've turned it into."
Yeah, me neither. In the last two and a half years "our govt" under Barakolypse has decided what kind of lightbulbs we'll be able to buy and they've told the car makers what kind of cars to build in the future! Oh, and then there's the embarrassing little matter of giving guns to drug runners! He just doesn't get it, he's not in office to try to *tell* The People what to do, he's in office to *serve* The People! He'll "get it" in Nov of 2012 when we throw him out of office! Jimmy Carter must be running around dong the peppermint twist! There are sooooo many people out here scratching their heads wondering what the hell this guy is doing.
And, he won't enforce our immigration laws or border and has a DHS director who tells us that the Mexican border is secure!
This is a really bad time in our history.
I'm not a Republican but I did watch that debate last night and I did find it refreshing to hear some of the answers from those candidates!
Boy do we EVER need change!

i have heard that because there arent enough younger people to pay into social security that its gonna run out of money soon especially once the boomers retire en masse. So if the money does run out, what will happen to retirement then?

Oh there's enough young people they're just making sub par wages. You pay a lot less tax when you're making $15 an hour (subsistence level) than you would on $40 an hour.
The big corps. moved those jobs overseas and turned them into slave wage jobs yet, they still want access to our markets in the U.S.
"Free trade" is like "cheap labor" .....there's no such thing.

It's very difficult to get immigration papers to Australia unless you work in a trade they're keen to collect at the moment.

I thought that you just had to commit a crime.

I think the horse has left the stable on corps overseas. So cuz kids arent earning enough to support social security, and it runs out, then what are you going to do?

What happened popeye???
You have told us often that your government check comes on time.
You told us about how low your overhead is at the golf course.
You told us about your new car.
Did obama stop payment on your retirement check?
or:
Are you just making noise again?

Thompson, it was you who "changed the topic" with those silly questions of yours.
Everything is fine around here and the car runs great, Cadillac drivers look at it with envy. The lease is up in Dec and I don't know what I'll get next, a Ford Edge, a Taurus, an F-150, I don't know. I like those new Mustangs too.

So the bottom line is that obama has caused you no problems and life is good for you...
Will you be voting for more of the same thing?

If legal yes, illegal, dont be so sure. Ive seen estimates as high as a couple of million "self deporters" since 2008.

I don't have an issue with immigrants, and never have. Lifeboat economics is a failed theory, and was laughable to begin with, and the only reason immigrants harm the American economy (if they do, which is arguable) is because of glaring holes in the tax and immigration laws the American government is too childish to rectify. As to my own part in it, I am a partial emigrant (soon to be full emigrant) so that I like to think I have a deal of perspective on. For the record, my country of choice is the Czech Republic, where I currently spend about half the year and as of this coming June will be moving to permanently.

I have dealt with a bit of flack from the locals, though nothing on the level of the kind of racism we see against Mexicans in the US, and honestly it didn't bother me too much. If anything I've dealt with a great deal more from my own countrymen considering me a turncoat and so forth, which is something I have taken considerably more exception to.

Mostly the former I've dealt with by confronting it when it is overt and discussing rationally their reasoning and why it is wrong, which has been quite successful, and the latter by confronting it when it is overt and beating them until their reasoning becomes more enlightened, which has been less successful but considerably more fun . Certainly I've never reconsidered my planned move because of that sort of thing, but then again it is fairly rare to see Czechs be difficult about it (though, I will say picking up women is harder for me there than literally anywhere else I've been in the world, which I'm told is a matter of ethnocentrism) and Americans being difficult is all the more reason to leave, if anything. If I dealt with the level of shit that Mexicans do perhaps I would take a different approach, but truthfully I doubt it.
