Yes, this president is really for America! And so are the people he appoints.
WAY TO GO MR. PRESIDENT!!!!

"Our Job Czar under the annointed one is moving the X-ray division of GE to China."

Who are you trying to kid. General Electric decides, not some assholes in the government. They do it for the stockholders, Grandma and Grandpa's retirement. They are duty bound to do so in a publicly traded company to maximize shareholder benefit. Since many of these shareholders are old and retired, they do not care about the future, and the company's practices do reflect that. If not, management would be out on it's ass, usually. Well, not if they were in the banking department, but almost anywhee else.

Of course the government did make for these conditions under which this is the best business decision, but they didn't send that last 3% of the company overseas. They do not have the power to do that. Only the top brass at GE can make that decision.

How's Grandma and Grandpa's retirement doing BTW ?

More pointless Obama bashing without any basis in the facts.

GE have stated they are moving top executives to China, to be closer to the fastest growing market. It seems to me if American executives are moving abroad, then they will STILL have jobs.

No doubt the usual suspects will explain why this isnt the case, and why Obama is to blame for the decisions of the GE directors.

The Op said the Xray division. Who the fuck cares where the suits go, let them go. If you have info that the actual Xray division (what's left of it here) it actually not moving let's hear it. That's the way I took it. Am I wrong ?

I did complain thirty years ago and found that it does no good. Inmelt schminmelt, just more of the same shit. I been around it a bit too much to care about one company. Eventually all we will have is banks and a military. I hope to be dead by then.

ETA : That movie was Ruthless People. I just didn't want to be a pest.

YES I want that movie. That is to be in my collection. I can't even seem to get it streaming.

But to the topic at hand. My family in years past was quite invloved in many aspects of what made this country, manufacturing, computers (as hard as that may be to beieve) metalurgy and chemistry. I could give you a rundown but rather it be in a mail. We have seen what has happened, jobs simply phased out, supposed dowsizing. Outsourcing of even the machines that the few most skilled were able to still produce something on, noting the same fucking mistakes made in the copies, because there were no real international patents back then. I have seen too much. And China wasn't the only problem, Poland and Germany fucked us up as well back then. And a few others. But back then we still had the means to fight back, but our captains of industry didn't have the balls. Too late now.

I do care, but with no avenue to do anyting about it I would rather,,,,,,,,, no, I guess I can't just forget about it.

We need a president with balls who'll lock cos. like G.E. out of our market place.
If they want to move their co. to China good luck to them but they shouldn't retain any "rights" to sell in our markets.

Decision such as this one are inevitable under a system where the Company Directors are legally bound to act in the interests of their stockholders ie where capital is both authorised and mandated to act solely in its own interests.

It hardly matters who the President is. It would be an hallucination to imagine that changing the President will change decisions such as this. The critical factor is the legal imperative for capital to act solely in its own interests. Until the current laws are changed, it doesn't make an iota of difference who the President is. My understanding is that it is a Congressional responsibility to enact legislation so that's where to look if people wish to change the current scheme.

Until laws are enacted recognising that there are important national and social interests involved in these decisions, and that Companies must take these into account in their decision making, claiming that the outsourcing of jobs can be stopped, or blaming individual politicians for outsourcing decisions is delusory.

Just out of curiosity, are you not a fan of free enterprise?
Does GE not have the right to try to serve both markets?
Here I thought you were the great libertarian hope....

WI?   That cound't get any more ironic.

What up with that 'savior' gov up there?

Oh, wait, he represents the Kochs and Immelts and the invested grandpas.

'Divide and conquer' was the elite's plan all along, people.  Scotty-boy came through on the 'divide' part, the elites will take care of the rest.

Do you have a clue of how much GE`s overseas trades add to the US economy ?

Somehow I doubt it.

And how exactly would that work?

Meaning where would the authority to do that come from?

The President certainly doesn't have it, though you are apparently under the illusion he does.

Yes the reading level of the OP and many of the people in the comments below the story is suspect.  They all skipped over one little word.

"General Electric Co. said it is moving its X-ray business headquarters to China"

Yeah, and government policies have nothing to do with how profitable a line of business can be.
