Seems like the lifestyle and lack of common sense had a really put a wrench in the gears of this Master and his Slaves plans/life. Tisk Tisk ... oh those judgemental people! they always ruin all the fun .. dont they?!?

why is it a surprise ending? Why would he not resign? He did the smart thing for once. The school has bigger problems without his problems being in the way.

ETA: Nevermind, didn't see the NOT. Still...for once in his life he did something smart.
