I'd like to inject a word or of sanity into this discussion.

I think Cantor's assertion that cost-offsets must be met before FEMA spends any money is ridiculous. FEMA has a rather large budget for just this sort of thing. Of course, FEMA will probably blow through that budget and go back to Congress requesting more funds before everything is said and done, not to mention a need to refill their bank accounts before the next disaster. But seeing to the protection of the American people is what Congress is supposed to do. And that includes helping the country and her citizens recover from a natural disaster.

That said, seeing that everybody is housed adequately (and no, that does not necessarily mean that everybody should have back the lifestyle they had prior right away), fed and gets necessary health care should be a priority. Next should be infrastructure, and where the majority of any monies should be spent--both state and federal. And finally, remaining monies should be on a 'needs basis'. FEMA should also work with the insurance companies to see that they pay out. And those who have insurance should be required to do their repairs and then repay any monies left to FEMA and/or state agencies. Far too many people are greedy and use disasters as a mean of putting money (be it a few dollars or a few thousand dollars) into their pockets and this is just wrong.

More from your own source:

quote:

There are also numerous homes, many right on Lindbergh, that are awaiting demolition. They mayor says he believes insurance spats have at least something to do with the fact they're still standing.

The snow and the mud and so forth, that might be an excuse. I don't know how much longer we should take the excuses before we start seeing some action.

Nolan singled out three companies as being among the worst. One was Safeco Insurance.

A spokesman for Safeco told FOX 2 that 180 of the 198 claims tied to the Missouri tornado outbreak have been paid and closed.

Further, he said via email, "We continue to work with policyholders to resolve the remaining claims. We always strive to handle claims quickly and fairly, and we pride ourselves on our response to catastrophic events."

So according to you and this nobody mayor "the bare foundations and half destroyed homes still standing are the proof" that "no" claims have been paid

But thats nonsense

These days, with the new Obama economy they could well be houses that were owned by the banks, abandoned houses, houses that were uninsured, houses whose owners took the insurance money and ran...

I have never had a problem with an insurance company refusing to pay a claim, no one I know has ever had a problem with an insurance company refusing to pay a claim. In fact I recently had a very good experience with an insurance company... for you to assert that NO claims have been paid is preposterous, especially when your own source suggests that at least half the claims have been paid.

I dont think Cantor was referring to standard FEMA relief, he was probably referring to the billions that Congress likes to throw at every problem that arises in a knee jerk manner

I have heard many of them say they want LESS government and LESS taxes. I haven't heard any say they want NO government. So what's your point?

The question then is boi. How much less gov't and how much less taxes? Wouldn't it be logical that if you got rid of both that you'd have a tea bagger utopia?

As far as the OP tea partiers are for revamping gov't worker pay and rights why would they not do the right thing and refuse gov't assistance of that kind they rail against?

Thats a stoopid strawman argument

When did Christie ever object to or condemn "all" government spending

CHRIS CHRISTIE: We have FEMA representatives here at the -- at the Regional Operations and Intelligence Center, been working with us. I'm going to be calling Secretary Napolitano in an hour or two to make a further request of additional needs. But so far, FEMA has been very responsive. I spoke to Secretary Napolitano in the last 24 hours. She's offered to do whatever she needs to do to help us out here in New Jersey. She knows how hard we're going to be hit. So right now, the cooperation between New Jersey and FEMA has been great, and I'm going to be calling Secretary Napolitano shortly to ask for some more help.

STOOPID REPUBLICAN! Chris Christie is such a fucking hypocrite, he sees no problems adding to our federal debt as long as it benefits him!

Surely not when his son was playing baseball in the spring

I can only go by the homes in my town...they can say anything...but the proof is in actions and facts...Come on over to St. Louis and I will be glad to take you on a tour of the area and you will see for yourself the still bare foundations and half destroyed homes.

Safeco is but one mentioned company and provided no proof of their statement where I have proof of non compliance.

I do believe that many insurance companies are reputable but there is also a system wide problem of denying or delaying claims when there would be a massive outlay of money by a particular company.

This could even be understandable in circumstances such as Joplin or Katrina but the damage in my town was limited to a small area by a F3 tornado. It would even be different if it were one insurance company but this was at least four different ones.

There is just no excuse in this circumstance and can only be attributed to greed by these companies.

Myself I think it has nothing to do with politics and certainly not a Republican versus Democrat problem but it does point to the benefits of a well run government aid program . If we can not afford to fund it then we should withdraw from overseas programs of all kinds until we can. I also believe that all aid should be repaid the government out of insurance payoffs if applicable. I also believe those who do not carry home or renter insurance should be required to repay a portion of the aid over time and required to carry insurance in the future before more aid will be given.

Yes, because 'Rush Limbaugh' has always displayed such a 'neutral' and 'unbias' outlook on the performance of Mr. Obama for the past three years, right?

You obviously dont understand tea party "principles".

The insurance company to start with, and any insurance department or court that reviewed them. Hint: Insurance companies cant just walk away from covered losses.

mnottertail -> RE: East Coast Tea Partiers & Hurricane Irene (8/29/2011 1:39:28 PM)

hint: jesus, an insurance peddler who doesnt know insurance. They can refuse and dick around until you are long past collecting. They do that as a matter of course, BTW.

What grade did you get on your 20 question exam anyhow?
