I voted that it really doesn't matter, but at first I was leaning towards "no".  There are way, way to many people who consider name calling, creative use of the word "fuck", and nastiness a debate.  And equate the ability and endurance to be on a computer all day to be a "victory".  That's what happens when you get to be anonymous.

I see it like white noise, when it is the same old mantra repeated over and over. You can call it cowardly if you like, I see it as rational solution to irrational posters. In the few topics I now post on, I find it much easier to stay on topic, and address issues.

I judicious use of the hide feature could make this section better. Those that just troll, bait, etc. put on hide. There is a difference between having an opposing position and some of the insults and crap that gets posted.

You know, I just don't understand the hide feature.

And I've said this before to other people, I think it's cowardly.

If you don't have the balls to take criticism then maybe you should stick to the milder forums.

Even the opportunity to laugh at Sanity couldn't get me to Vegas.

Oh now now. First of all, there are a few little hills around, I actually live on one. And secondly, while I can be quite boring, I would never be so crass as to laugh out loud. I am quite adept at the art of making a person think I find them amazingly intelligent and interesting all while laughing my ass off on the inside.

Now, if you will dig around in that noggin of yours and find a sense of humour, you might just realize I was teasing you, just to trash talk Vegas. I fucking HATE the place.

OK, maybe I went a little overboard with the cowardly statement, but I have never blocked anyone here.

You are on a message board with people of many viewpoints.

So why bother if you only want to hear those that match your views?

Its not a matter of hearing only those that match your views, there are people here that provide so little content on ANY view (and provide no laughs either) that their posts arent worth the time spent even skimming them.

Problem is that when people present facts, with links to verify the facts, they are still accused of strawman, lieing, etc and insulted.

Depends on your definition of "links to verify the facts" (blogs, MediaMatters and HuffPo dont verify anything), and whether or not they are strawmen. There are a few here who you absolutely know will only respond with strawmen and a few with a .500 or so batting average.

sorry willb but you are one of the not named people...not a chance in hell? you are part of the problem, not the solution

awww my feelings are so hurt.

sorry, but nobody gives a fuck what you think.

People who want a rational discussion get one, those who want to lie, strawman, spin or snark get what they deserve.

Is a rational discussion possible here?
Yes, and more often than you think.
Each thread is not just a homogenous thing.
It's a woven thing, there are discussions and sub-discussions and tangents and cul de sacs, but there are rational discussions in there.

There is also bloody stupidity. More often than you'd like.

But one should not let the latter overshadow the former.

I would say yes to the OP. If things didn't get a bit heated now and then I think this forum would be quite boring. Though that  "I fucking HATE the place." (Vegas) thing is not rational.

I don't block those people. It is the one's that either 1) Just use personal insults 2) Never have substance to their statements and is the same post just reworded, over, and over, and over, 3) Those that show no interest in actually discussing things, and just yell party line rhetoric ALL THE TIME.

I believe I have six people on hide total. It cuts down on the white noise distractions, as there are less posts to read, and if I am in a bad mood it helps to keep me from posting emotionally.

I have never blocked a soul on CM.

It's nice to see Firm posting in other parts of the forums, I always enjoyed Firm's and Rich's sense of humor.

This is definitely the bowels of CM.

If you make it to Vegas, you won't have a bar bill, dinner tab or a lap dance bill (within reason, on that last one, and only if I can convince Treasure that the dances are actually for YOU and not me! )
I'll make your life easier and skip on the lap dances, but the odds of me making it to Vegas are about the same as Hillary's chances of winning the Republican nomination.

I'll see what I can do though, because it sure as Hell would be fun to get together with you and Insanity after all these years of sparring.

Is it perhaps an answer to the OP's question that the leftest of the lefties looks forward to meeting the righties more than any others on here?
