One thing I'd propose, for example, is a tiering of moderation for different parts of the board. We all know that Pols and Relig gets a lot of leeway (I'd just close that section personally - but I know how much some people love the banter down there) but I'd make it clearer.

I'd have a newcomers section that would be heavily moderated. A general section that was moderated to the standard TOS and a moshpit that wasn't moderated at all.

I think I'd go along with that, though I'd leave the P and R forum for those who enjoy a good skirmish or two. Even I join in with that occasionally, though it sometimes feels like work.

When this thread started my almost instant conclusion was 'Yes, I'd like to see changes, but there's little that the mods or the site in general can do about that'. The derisive tone of so many posts made me feel a little uncomfortable a year ago; now, I frequently see it as ugly and low. (And yes, sometimes I've colluded.) It reminds of nothing so much as a playground full of nasty little schoolboys and schoolgirls. And that really is *not* a comment on the more youthful regulars amongst us. I've seen nominally much more 'mature' posters acting this way, too.

A newbies' forum, heavily moderated, might just help solve that, at least for said newbies. It would open a space somewhere between 'Introductions' - where long-termers are generally friendly and welcoming, or they don't bother to visit the forum at all - and the established forums. In such a newbies' forum, I'd hope that thread-starters would be given the benefit of the doubt. If it looks like a 'wank thread', for instance, then long-termers who see it that way should just not post on it. Leave it to those who feel generous that day.

aaaaand this thread is completely fucked. I wish a Mod would come along and clean/lock it. Sigh.

Does this site have Mods anymore?

Gosh.

I don't think so, honestly I'm fed up. I wish people would just start another thread referencing the comment that inspired it.

Well, having skipped most of the thread and the usual diversions, I'd say the flip side is the whole "more extreme than thou" ethic, which often, in my mind, completely misses the point that people do this strictly for reasons of personal gratification, so do whatever it is you find gratifying.

Anytime you get into the extreme stuff however, you do run the risk of encouraging the inexperienced - you don't want inexperienced people skydiving or mountain climbing or boxing, and any books on these subjects will usually advise you to start small and learn the ropes, rather than just jump out of the next airplane.

In this case, the bar is pretty low, you don't need and airplane, you just need another person and a few hours of free time.

Some people know where to draw the line and can jump right in, others may lack common sense or have other issues, and you don't want to encourage doing anything to anybody and calling it "BDSM", or every abusive child molester and rapist in the world is going to start using it as an blanket excuse for violent/antisocial/abusive behavior - that's what religion is for.

It's really a bit of conundrum, the act of giving and taking abuse, without it actually devolving into something ugly, dysfunctional and abusive.

Perhaps its just your perception. You are seeing what you want to see. You are a sexist, so you assume the whole world is as well, it's a common trait actually, to see one's own prejudices reflected in the actions of others. it's a difficult thing to do, to step outside of your own mental box and view the world neutrally, one tends to interpret things through one's own filters of anger/hate and so on.

Cheri, for example tends to assume that everybody has some sort of homo-political agenda, because it fits her weltanschauung to be oppressed for her sexuality. You, it would seem, work the same way, only to an more extreme degree. You see gender hatred in others because it is the basis of your world view. It fits your weltanschauung to be oppressed for your gender. You both have a victim based model that you use to interpret the actions of others.

I'd say it was interesting, but unfortunately it is really so common as to be almost a stereotype.

Great post - this summer there was a Jon Stewart clip about Republican "victimization" that illustrated this perfectly, but alas, I cannot find it.

"The Shitter".

Sometimes when I'm sitting on the shitter and pass a big one, and there's nothing to read to help pass the time between that Big One and the next potential record holder, I'm reminded of CM and boot up and pick a CM thread to play a little game I call "The Shitter".

The rules are simple. To play I read the Opening Post and then jump to the last few posts and see if and how they relate. If they do, no matter how remotely, then I get to do as many "early flushes" needed so things don't get too, well, too full of shit. But if they don't relate at all then I have to leave the lever alone until the bitter end which always means after adding paper and more shit that I'll have to reach for the trusty bowl plunger and cross my fingers and get ready to do a dance or jump up on the seat cause I'm not wearing boots at the moment. It's dicey and risky at best, you know, and it can get real shitty everywhere you look, just like a thread.

I'm fucked on this one in case you're keeping score. Maybe I'll have more luck in the Gorean threads...

The absolute last thing this thread needed was an image of you, naked on a commode, laptop on your bare thighs, while you had enough crap coming out of you to fill an entire toilet.

Wait.  That happens just about every time you have something to type up on CM.

Nevermind.

Indeed!!!!

We need a somewhat more appealing image to end this on.

When we are feeling down, what we do is put on the GBS and crank it up and dance. As we dance we discard whatever clothes we are wearing bit by bit till in the end we are dancing, jumping and bouncing around sweaty and buck naked, laughing our heads off.

Early on I learned that when women follow me around and stick their chests out it's because they want my attention and I'm not complaining cause it's all good. So, what a surprise, here you are again, first to respond, chest out and chasing my whip and the rest of my shit. You know you want to sniff my leather up close. You dream of it and lurk in CM hell waiting for a chance to get my attention.

Good Girl.

FR: I have no clue what this thread is about. All I saw on the scroll was something about needing a chest and then women's boobs. For the record, I have big titties.

That is all.

Screw the Roses, I remember someone handed me that book when I was at my first Play Party.  I remember thinking, 'cool title,' as I thumbed threw the pages; but I don't remember a single thing in the book.  I'm not sure if it is because it didn't make any other impression on me at all, or if I was just too interested in watching all the new, fascinating things going on around me at the time.  I mean, there I was, a soccer mom turned single mom, ordained minister turned heathen - sitting in a room with half naked people beating each other.  It was surreal.  I didn't need no stinking books.

I doubt I'd be interested in reading it now.  I've just gone through so many changes over the years, not to mention been there, done all that.  This thread makes me consider picking up the book, just to see if my perception filter would be similar.  I won't do it though, because my give a damn isn't that ambitious at the moment.  Thanks, however, for starting an interesting thread.  It took me down a nice little stroll along memory lane. I'd have posted sooner, but us old broads don't stroll all that quickly these days.  I shoulda taken out the scooter, because I have LOTS of memory lane to travel ya know.  Yeah - oh well, hindsight and all that.
