I want the traits of a human man...sorry but I don't own a cat or a dog and don't wish to, not that I'm not an animal lover but I kinda have an affection towards a human male and I don't have the traits of either....more like that of a mouse. [8D]

She's not saying that you find animals attractive but given the stereotypes/traits dogs/cats have which you would prefer to have in a partner.  It's not unusual to have a partner like to be called a corny pet name too.  Or maybe I sleep with lunatics.

littlewonder -> RE: Cat or Dog? (9/8/2011 5:06:36 PM)

I dunno..I just don't ever compare the traits of people with animals. It just doesn't even cross my mind to do so.

M4S73R -> RE: Cat or Dog? (9/8/2011 5:11:52 PM)

There's a whole sub genera called Otherkin. Im not overly familuar with it. But from what ive gathered its people that have taken on the chartaristics of animals/ believe they are other then human. I wont sit here and say much about it, but its there and ive ran into it a few times.  Girls purring/meowing things like that.

avena -> RE: Cat or Dog? (9/8/2011 5:22:32 PM)

From D's point of view, I couldn't begin to guess whether he'd prefer a 'cat' or a 'dog' type sub. He's definitely a dog person, in general, and would never think to own a cat...the fur kind of cat that is. On the other hand, he definitely loves the cat-like aspects of my personality.

He's fond of teasing me about my propensity for napping. He loves the fact that a good cuddle to me, is me curled up in his lap. And he likes the fact that he is the only one I submit to, both consciously and unconsciously. Like a cat, I have only one master, whom I love and adore. I may not fall all over myself to do as he bids, as soon as he bids (some things I still have to have that little internal argument with myself first), but he knows that I do what he asks because I want to, not because he's going to 'give me a treat for being a good girl'.

It works for us. [:D]

Bahaha! not ALWAYS true. I think I might own the only completely submissive cat in the known universe ;P

As for my personal opinion, I'm neither. I'm a wolf =P I'm what came BEFORE dogs, baha!
As for what my Master prefers, he loves my personality, my undying loyalty, my occasional struggles for dominance, etc... but he also likes me to purr and do kitty-like things because the concept of being 'wolfish' or 'puppy girl' isn't as appealing as a term as the idea of a 'kitty girl'. So... I guess he prefers kitty-wolf-women. ;) Personality of one, but doing things of the other. If that makes ANY sense at all, lol.

DiarWolf -> RE: Cat or Dog? (9/8/2011 6:48:28 PM)

Well now that I'm back from work...tigress what you said was, frankly, uncalled for. *shrugs* You were the one being confrontational and I confronted you about it...even acknowledged and understood your preference...demeaning an opinion/thread is...meh I'll just stop at uncalled for.

Back on topic! A female wolf is very much like a cat (out in the wild) oddly enough. No one owns a cat...or a wolf-girl...they chose to be owned by one mate/male. She struggles a little bit and makes me prove that I'm the Dom that I say that I am, but at the end of the day she curls up on my lap and purrs...knowing exactly who she belongs to and who is in charge. I rather like the dynamic.

Otherkin are a little different.  I have a friend who is a monkey one.  They're people who, basically, believe they're an animal in a human body, and can "shapeshift," becoming closer to that animal.  I'm not a particularly big fan of that movement.  In fact, I think it's interesting, but kind of silly.  I do have feline traits and habits, and have since I was little, but that doesn't mean I think I'm a cat. I think it just means I have an affinity for cats.  Think Catwoman. lol  Though, that's probably not the best example, since most of Batman's rogues gallery is more than a little "off" mentally.

That is, genuinely, interesting to me.  I've often heard people compared with animals, particularly with distinguishing traits:
blind as a bat
bull-headed
sly as a fox
eagle-eyed
crabby
chicken-hearted
cool as a cat
loyal as a dog (or "dog loyal")
cold fish
wolf on the make (though, admittedly, this one's a little old-fashioned)

That sort of thing.  I've always gathered that finding parallels between human and bestial behaviors rather common. It could just be because of my family, and their penchant for using such colloquialisms...I tend to also use Yiddish, but have absolutely no Hebraic blood in me, that I know of.

Being wolfish isn't normally something I'd attribute to a girl, but with the way pack structures are, it's very possible for subs or slaves to be wolfish, just submissive wolfish.  Admittedly, some dogs with stronger (and in my mind, more cat-like) personalities also test their owners (such as Akitas, Huskies, Malamutes, etc.), but it's not considered a sweeping trait of dogs, overall.  I think the difference between wolves and cats, really, is that cats tend to be solitary (read: anti-social *cough*).

So, rock on!  I think "wolf girl" sounds awesome.

Baha!! You shoulda seen how often I had to smack s-types and D-types alike with a clueX4 back when I had the nickname WolfyMontgomery. I got called Sir so often that it wasn't even funny anymore. Well, it was funny, but only after you killed a few braincells smashing your head into the desk. On a side note, I've actually had the nickname Wolfy since before I even knew how to talk, because I apparently growled and barked more than anything in my infant year. =P

I feel the stronger dog/wolf types aren't necessarily cat-like when they are stronger, I think of it more as natural dominance and submission. If you look at pack hierarchy (which is a very common concept in wolves and dogs alike), there will be leaders, and there will be followers. And often - especially in those packs that aren't primarily comprised of family members (IE doggy gangs or wolf packs that chose their leader through acts of dominance and leadership and are not related, rather than parental guidance where the alphas are the parents of a majority of the pack), when the leader is weak, the others can and do sometimes spring to take control themselves.

For a cat, when they fight for 'their way', it's more because they want to be independent and do things 'their way'.
For dogs, when they fight for 'their way' it's often to test the dominant figure in their home/life to make sure they're still fit for the job, and if they aren't, then they see little reason to not take over and run things themselves. Even annoying, yappy dogs do this sometimes, surprise surprise. A lot of dogs test, just not always in the ways you find obvious. Sometimes a dog will jump on the furniture, and when you say "Off" or "No", and they don't do it right away, they are testing your power over them. When you give up and let them stay on the furniture (as a lot of owners do, and why they often end up on that Dog Whisperer show, LMAO), you have conceded the dominance to them in that situation. The more you concede, the more power they think they have, and the more dominant versus submissive they become.

So for me, because I am wolf-like in my mannerisms, and have a submissive personality type, I 'test' and fight and struggle because I'm (sometimes unconsciously) fighting for dominance. The catch is, because I am a submissive type, I don't ever want to win. I can be an efficient leader, and have been, and have totally dominated others in the hierarchy sense, but I hate doing so and don't like it.

Oh, that vaguely psychotic look in their eyes while they have their tongue hanging out, you mean?  This is one reason why I could never have a dog as a pet, they tend to be too "risk free" in what they do if you know what I mean.  Cats take calculated risks from what I've seen.  If they don't feel confident about that jump, they won't take that chance or find another way around.

Plus, they have those personality types where they act like they don't care about your existence but if you ignore their existence they come begging back.  It's good prep for when I get divorced three times down the road.

Read through all of the posts and it was a really good thread---and the response were great (with the exception of one and I'll have to say I missed the whole goo goo eyed thing and had to look back).

I'd have to be a cat---I'm not the clingly type, I can purr and be all cuddly when I want to, I can be completely annoying when I want to be like wrapping around your feet or nudging your hand with my face at 2 am because I feel like being petted but I am so cute it's hard to get angry about it, I don't require training I just learn to do cool things on my own (example one of my cats flushes the toilet when she wants fresh water, I have had cats that will fetch without training and all of my cats come when they are called or will at least look at you as if to say I hear you but I'm not coming.)

RaspberryLemon -> RE: Cat or Dog? (9/9/2011 3:26:30 AM)

Master says I am definitely more dog-like.

He actually gave the more specific answer of "wolf"...in his words: "intelligent and individual, strong-willed and stubborn but perfectly tamed by a firm and deserving hand of authority. To that one leader she is obedient, devoted, eager to please and unconditionally loyal and loving. Her affection is earned, but selfless." So there you have it.

I do like cats, though I personally much prefer the company of dogs. In my opinion cats are more distant and selfish than dogs. They are passive (even with their aggression) and calculating. Affectionate and even compliant or obedient when they want to be, when it benefits them or they are in the mood for attention. But in my experience no one is ever a cat's true master but itself. Those traits humanized, some people might like that calculating, independent, choosy/fickle type of submission, but I am not like that and as for my Master, he says he much prefers my "doggish" way.

This is a fun thread.

I don't want to hijack your thread, JadedInnocence, but let me point something out here:

-JadedInnocence asks a question.
-DiarWolf answers it.
-M4S73R answers it.
-LaTigresse, a regular here, demeans the post.
-JadedInnocence clarifies what she meant.
-LaTigresse continues being confrontational.
-JadedInnocence responds.
-DiarWolf follows up on his previous response.
-LaTigresse continues being, as some members would call me, "a douchecanoe."

To answer your question, however, I would *purrfur* (lolol) cat-like traits in a submissive.  My experience with cats is that they can be independent yet still know who they belong to at the end of the day.  I hate clingy-types.

You make a really fair point. But, can you see how it's slightly spoiled by this?

crazyml -> RE: Cat or Dog? (9/9/2011 3:32:49 AM)

To the OP..

I think this is a great question, and I think you've made it wonderfully clear what you're after.

But I'm going to cheat...

I really do look for some of the qualities of both.

I really like the stereotype of the cat as independent, wilful, selfish... Cats are sexier than dogs by a good old fashioned imperial mile.

But I adore the loyalty, and empathy that dogs are attributed with - Dogs are better long term companions by an equally good American gallon.

So I'm looking for a Cog, or a Dat.

I can see that being the case for me.  For whatever reason, I enjoy constantly being challenged and that every night is a tug-of-war, so to speak.  Plus the independence that is usually brought strikes me as ridiculously attractive.  If I feel that if the relationship will not work out for whatever reason, and that she has to be let go of, knowing that she can "fend for herself" makes me feel less worried about her being taken advantage of by an opportunist looking to get his rocks off under any pretense.
