She should have known better. Do your extra stuff within your palace not through some agency (this makes her seem like she is providing escort services). Better yet do your business in another city or in another state and know the law behind it. Have disclaimers and informed consent signed by anyone and everyone. Also let you employer know you may have a parttime job (without disclosing) and make sure it isn't a problem. Dumb...dumb...dumb.

As a state attorney, she was obligated to disclose what kind of part time work she was undertaking. In most jobs that have rules about moonlighting that is the case.

In this case, getting her sexual jollies was more important than her career.

I think a lot of people do not understand the code of conduct policy of companies is far more powerful than anyone can imagine. While you might have done something that was not illegal, if you violate that companies code of conduct you can be fired. That can be as simple as showing you drunk in a bar on your face book page. What you do outside of work has a huge impact on your career for that company. Things like being arrested, DUI, etc can get you disiplined or even fired from your company. And it is perfectly legal for the company to do so because you violated their code of conduct policy. The particular company I work for has you read and accept ( or be let go) that policy on a yearly basis.

I agree with you completely. Often on these boards, people get hung up on the whole idea that what they do on their own time is no one's business, but it couldn't be further from reality. As you said, someone stupid enough to post pictures of them drunk on facebook, or a public profile here with pictures runs the risk of ending their career. Although I am currently disabled (and likely will remain so forever), I don't post a picture on here because the job I did, and hopefully can do again someday isn't going to find it so accepting. My career was far more important than my kink and I'm not going to risk it for something stupid.

Her blatent disregard for rules is going to be a concern for potential employers. Having clients and adversaries think of her as a whore is another. I am not saying she is, but that is what many people in the legal community will think.

The dummy broke the law got caught and now has to pay the price her job. She got what she deserved. No different than speeding and getting a ticket. I for one wouldn't hire someone so dumb <she knew the rules and broke them anyway> on my staff.

Yep, that was pretty much my point. Of course, aside from future employers, a smart person doesn't want an attorney who is willing to break the rules. Who wants that potential damage to their case?

As long as being a pro domme isn't illegal in her area, I don't think she will be disbarred either. I do believe she has done serious damage to her reputation though. The need to get approval to "moonlight" is typically made very clear when you work those government jobs. When I worked for the State of Florida, it was made clear in orientation. Her blatent disregard for rules is going to be a concern for potential employers. Having clients and adversaries think of her as a whore is another. Understanding the Law of Prostitution in New York: Prostitution, Promoting Prostitution, and Patronizing a Prostitute (Penal Law Chapter 230)

A person is guilty of this Class B misdemeanor when he or she “engages or agrees or offers to engage in sexual conduct with another person in return for a fee.” Sexual conduct is defined as "all and any sexual touching of any kind."

The question is, was there really any actual sexual touching of any kind taking place? I mean touching of the sexual parts in anyway, i.e. penis, vagina, bum.

I was just answering the question about whether pro-domming = prostitution in NYC. As to this specific case, from the article:

quote:

"A spokesman for state Attorney General Eric Schneiderman confirmed she had been suspended but would not say why.

But sources told the New York Post say her suspension is probably only because she has profited from the work.

Employees of the state Attorney General’s Office must get prior approval for outside work that could generate them more than $1,000."

Chances are the way NY defines it, there was sexual contact. It is not limited to the penis, vagina or butt. The bottom line here is that in most places in the United States, being a pro domme is going to be breaking the law. It doesn't matter if YOU don't think it qualifies, it matters what the local prosecution thinks qualifies.

In this case, she really should be disbarred. A lawyer playing in the grey area doesn't get to keep their bar card, and they are just stupid.
