To all of the wonderful Dommes out there:  Is there a time, a defining moment, an actual moment of truth when You come to realize or are assured that the sub, slave is unconditionally Your property???   Is it an intuitive feeling or a physical act or evolution of events or a simple declaration on the part of the sub/slave that actually creates the contract????

Since my personal philosophy is that those who enter into my service do so as adults who have the rights to consent or not, there is never a time when I think of someone as just my property.

Even if he/she never leaves we still in a society where we are not supported and others could always attempt to do something to break us up.

Geesh, I'm a little pessimist aren't I?

I believe its an evolution of events. To watch a sub evolve from acquaintance to someone who holds a special place in your heart is wonderful. I mean you go through the negotiations, you talk and discover each other's deepest darkest secrets, you put them in positions that perhaps no one else ever has and they put all their trust and devotion in you. It's a gradual process I think and I know for me it gives me a feeling of serenity, I think its in that moment you know at least for me it was.

I don't think of my sub as property, to me that is demeaning. I respect him as a person and I think he deserves more then that. He belongs to me yes, but he can leave at any time and that would be crushing. He worships me and in my own way, I worship him. Sappy? yeah but its the truth.

Thank You for that explanation Ms Lashra:  Your answer was very candid and honest. Not at all 'Sappy'!!!!  You seem tobe a most kind and gentle Mistress.   Once again Thank You!!!

You are very welcome nick2020 and I hope some of the other wonderful Dommes here can also give you their view on *the moment*. [:)]

It would be a declaration on both sides.  It would occur when the submissive/slave realizes he is ready to be owned, and Myself, as the potential owner, agrees to become the owner.  Then it is a matter of speaking it, and signing a contract, if that is what one uses.  I do use a contract.  It is flexible to a point, and the submissive/slave is permitted to have a say in some of that flexibility.  But it is My final decision regarding whether or not I can live with what he needs and/or wants.
I can't even begin to tell you how many boys think they should be swept away with no say in the matter.  Fantasy!
Until such time, I do expect courtesy, honesty and a show of willingness to be obedient in all things.   Quite honestly, this is where most of the petitioners fail.  However, this allows Me to see the potential in a petitioner (or not!), and the submissive/slave also takes the time to get a sense of Me and My expectations.

Nick,

Your post prompts a question that I have often asked myself, "In BDSM, what is the definition of ownership?" I'd be interested in the forum's thoughts on this.
