Demo's and play parties in your area are the best way to learn from others who are more experienced.

I agree with IrishMist. If you don't know of any demos or play parties, just do a google search for them.

fireplay is one of those things where in-person mentoring is probably best. there is probably someone local to you who has experience with it.

as an aside, at the last party i went to, i learned the joys of setting white rain mousse on fire -- it's a really nice sensation. ^_^

I agree that this should probably be a hands on mentoring thing.

But, I'll also add that you should always double check your safety list to make sure you have everything.

A group of us were watching a "fire scene" at a party that had two "Doms" and one "sub". (I use quotations because I don't view any of them as actually fulfilling those roles)

The first Dom used a spray bottle to spray alcohol onto the sub's back. He didn't realize that he had sprayed too much and it had run down the crack of her ass. Then he lit it on fire. She's screaming, they have no wet towels, and the second Dom is trying to slap out the fire and ends up looking like Curly from the Three Stooges.

Needless to say, their fun for the night ended early.

Hello,

I much prefer playing with candle wax. The candle is on fire but I suppose that is not what you are referring to. Fire is obviously dangerous so yes do your research and watch others before trying this at home.[;)]

Hope this helps.

Yeah, mentors are great and all, but there are good ones and bad ones. Someone can be a great fire player and a terrible teacher, and then there are shitty fire players.

I've been doing BDSM style fire play for 3 years, and have been a fire performer for over 7.

Fire and fire safety is a bit of science, philosophy, and down right understanding. Learning a checklist of things to have does no good if you don't get how flame behaves, and the instinct isn't there to do what needs to be done when things get out of hand, and at some point they will.

It's about knowing the flame, knowing the equipment, knowing the fuel, and how things burn. It's about taking it slow, and always respecting that fire is dangerous no longer how many times you've lit up, and how experienced you are.

7 years of experience and I still take new shit slow. Learned how to safely do fire balls 2 years ago, finally got the nerve to try it myself 2 months

So many fire accidents happen due to over confidence and carelessness.
