Rest in peace.

**********
CUPERTINO, Calif. (AP) -- Apple Inc. said the company's co-founder Steve Jobs died Wednesday. He was 56. "We are deeply saddened to announce that Steve Jobs passed away today," the company said in a brief statement.
"Steve's brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve."

Very fitting, thanks for sharing that.

So many people could learn a lesson from him -- not really in his success but in his understanding of how to be successful -- finding what you love to do and doing it.  It really is that simple.

I owned an APPLE Macintosh back in 1989. It sold without a hard disc and came with just one internal floppy drive. I had too buy an external floppy drive myself. Then there was the Apple dot matrix printer. Five or so years later I got a Quadra and spent $2K on a laser printer to go with it. Since then I've had three IMACs.

The only thing hugely missing from my experience is holding AAPL stock.

Steve Jobs engineered the most amazing turnaround of AAPL, a company many prognosticators said would die out because of WINTELL machines that were much cheaper with a larger market share in the computing world. Apple survived because it was cooler to use and had a superior operating system. The comeback began with the colored IMACs. Flat screens followed. The tidal wave, though, was the IPOD followed by the IPHONE. Nothing has been the same since.

Steve Jobs had a hand in all of it.

Cripes. He was 56?
Man. Not many folks can say they changed the world. Jobs was one.
The man was an innovator and a genius-we are all the better for his having been among us and the lesser for his loss.
Happy Trails Steve. Have fun wiring Heaven.

This is my favourite quote from Steve Jobs.

“Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of other's opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”

the site had a poignat little page, just his photo and the dates. if you clicked on it, it took you to a reading, but the plain little page was very moving.
very sad -- RIP steve jobs.
few people really get to change the world in their lifetime, and he really did.

That's actually the # for Twitter about his passing.

Hi all,

I went out on my porch that night and said a prayer for his spirit. I got my first apple in about 85', and Jobs was always an inspiration. Even when he was 'down and out' having been fired from the company he co-created, he was working with passion on this little understood technology having to do with animation... The guy just never stopped. And the rest is history.

Quoting Cloudboy for the second time today,

quote:

The comeback began with the colored IMACs

I was reading a write up on him the other day and they were mentioning all the iWhatHaveYous and they didn't even mention the iMac! That was indeed what got it turned around after the Pepsi CEO disaster. Pretty simple too. People were like, "Oooh, look at the pretty colors!"

To be that ahead of the curve for that long a period of time honestly puts him in a class with Edison in my opinion.

Rest In Peace Steve Jobs.

Only I think we all know he won't.

iHeaven anyone?

At risk of having people whine at me for picking on the poor dead guy again:

Jobs had bugger all to do with the iMac (which was Jonathan Ives' baby), iPod (which wasn't even designed by anybody at Apple) and iPhone. He could claim some credit for the Lisa, and for Steve Wozniak quitting Apple, but strangely always chose not to.
There was about four years between the ousting of the "Pepsi CEO disaster"* in 1993 and Jobs' reinstatement. Arguably Gil Amelio and Michael Spindler were a lot more responsible for the downturn that left Apple so desperate that they hired Jobs as CEO and bought out NeXT, but they had no hand in firing Jobs in the first place, so haven't been as thoroughly vilified as John Sculley.

It's a shame he's dead, and he was an excellent PR cheerleader, but his technical skills were all but nonexistent and he was a notoriously bad manager. It'd be nice if people could bear that in mind rather than insulting everybody else who's worked for Apple in the last fourteen years by insisting that he saved the company from ruin single handed.
