Dude, what is it about seeing someone get punished in public that you consider "pleasant"?

Sounded more like domestic abuse to me... he is drunk and going to thrash her at home? Right ok that sounds like a healthy relationship.

Different cultures-I get it, but this has very little to do with BDSM and a lot more to do with the woman’s rights movement having yet to reach certain areas of the world-where some still think this sort of behavior towards woman is acceptable.

What makes me sad is that the op, a man from the Canada no less, where in culture, woman are NOT treated as such, saw nothing wrong with this display and instead thought it was a merry little tail to tell and something that made HIS dinner more ENJOYABLE.

Even if this couple were kinky, you don't bring kinky shit out into the public, which leads me to think this was not kink at all and simply a sad way of life that many woman live. Which; really is nothing to celebrate or think upon fondly. The only emotion (in my opinion) to be felt here is sorrow that such living conditions still exist at the tail end of 2011. A time in which I thought, we as a human race and grown past such barbaric displays and caveman like thinking.

Nothing that women could have done would have warranted such treatment from any man let alone her, own husband and the fact that the op looked upon that scene with anything other than distain makes me feel very sad inside.

The law of the land applies. Depending on where this happens.... in the US, I would call the police and let them determine what to do next. Doing something is always better than doing nothing.

Ok, M would never apologise to anyone for behaving toward me in any way. That would just be unheard of and silly...lol

If you're *that* way inclined, I can see why it'd be seen as a pleasant evening. Much is in the spin.

This is where it gets tricky, he wasn't in his own country, but I don't think even if he was that he would have stepped in. I also doubt he was the only one to witness this going on (if it did in fact happen, I am confused as to whether this is a true story or creative writing as the topic was moved,) and I have to think that if the op saw this happen at least one person who actually lived and grew up there had seen it. This is what leads me to believe it is a cultural thing. That doesn't make it 'ok' but it does shed some light on the situation, the sad truth is in some places in the world this is still acceptable behavior. What got me was that the Op, a man from Canada where such things are not acceptable practice, enjoyed it and saw nothing wrong with such things... but then I read his full profile and I now have an understanding of the op a little more and it all starts to make sense...

I call the cops first and let them sort it out. I used to be a bartender and I didn't put up with that stuff in my bar, ever.

It's no wonder the OP is a "freeman" if this is how he views the world.

Whether this is a creative writing or not ... the senerio poses:

Im not cool with the whole deal PERIOD.... It was abusive in two ways. Abusive to her because it was done out of anger by him, and abusive to anyone that was out to have a meal and had to witness that bullshit. Fuck the OP and his "slightest of smiles" what about everyone else that had to see that shit?

Id be pissed the hell off if I saw that out at some restuarant. I sure as hell wouldnt just sit there. Id be fucking trippin.

I'd be trippin too. Tripping over myself to get to the phone. But I'm kind of a bitch about domestic violence. *wink wink* or not.

It wasn't creative writing, it was just a summary of an evening I spent and I wanted to document it. Not sure why. As to rhetoric there was a degree of verbal irony. I fear many of the commentators here are confusing the concept of irony with sarcasm. Irony can exist regardless of the writers intent and in this case whether the intent was to celebrate or shame the result is clear. I shan't expound on this concept any further.

As to calling the cops, domestic abuse etc. I didn't mostly because whenever I've intervened in 'domestic' situations (professionally) and the police have been contacted it has ended up much worse for the abused. They have to be in a place where they are ready to take action. Also location and culture are very relevant and I wasn't in merry old Canada when this occurred.

What I found intellectually sickening and what appealed to the fetish/sick part of me was the unbelievable misogyny of the situation -- the power dynamic wasn't forced but rather taken for granted among everyone there.

Really? The irony was so subtle that it appeared to be a story from some of our more misogynistic posters. I apologize for saying it's no wonder you're a free man. : )

Never, ever apologize before you say something -- it's an admission of intention!

One of these days I shall write a post on my conflicted misogyny or lack of it, I would be interested in your response.

Ironic? Really?

I saw no irony.

What I DID see was someone who thinks that it's ok to ignore abuse.

Way to go.

Well, I got the irony, at least. I am glad, AFreeMan.
About "conflicted misoginy" maybe you have a similar situation as mine. Sadist from the heart; humanist from the heart. Strictily separating, with quite a bunch of self-control, ethics from aesthetics.
What makes it easy for me is that the "realistically played" (or real) destruction of the personality of the woman shuts my libido off. Only the agression instinct remains, which is then redirected. Given enough luck and lack of laws, I would have plastered the brains of that man on the floor by opening his head repeatedly with an iron bowl or plate at disposal. And I would have enjoyed every second of it.
Fortunately, laws do exist, and I am humanist (*take the pose of a Buddah*) oooooommmm....
