I had my ingrown toe nail taken care of without any local or anything. Sure, it hurt like hell. But a few minutes of intense pain is a hell of a lot better than living with the constant pain.

Defiantbadgirl,

I agree with you, shots in the foot are HORRIBLE. I have had to have several due to an injury I sustained several years ago and wound care that required deep debreeding. The Dr. always put a topical Lidocane gel on the injection site a few minutes before the shot which didn't kill the pain completely but it lessened the severity of the pain. You might ask your Dr. to do that.

I had my big toe nail on the right foot removed 6 bloody farkin times before my GP finally figured out he might as well have the root taken out so that I wouldn't suffer more infections.  This was done over 30 yrs ago.  The last time he did it, I'd let it go so long I had blood poisoning up to my thigh and almost lost my right foot.  I knew how painful it was to have the toenail, or half of it removed and didn't want to go back.  I had no choice.

And I'm absofuckinglutely the biggest baby around when it comes to shots.  Believe me, the nurse I punched in the nose accidentally when she tried to take blood years ago can probably still attest to that.  My arm came up like a shot and caught her right in the shnozz.  After that, I had someone hold my arm down so I wouldn't do it again.

Removing the root was done under local anasthetic at the hospital, in and out in a few hours, the nurse had to threaten to tie me to the bed I wanted to leave so badly.  I then made the mistake of putting a sneaker on that foot and it took weeks to take the gauze off.  Soaking in hot water and pulling one strand at a time.  So I know how painful it is, even all these years later.

Get it looked after before it becomes worse and you develop an infection like I did.  I was also advised not to wear colored socks, especially black ones due to the dyes in them.  So it's been white sports socks ever since.  It may have hurt like hell, but I'm glad I had it done and don't have to suffer the agony of an ingrown toenail anymore.
