hmm, I just saw this topic today and it's similar to questions I had about my own bdsm tendencies.
I had depression since a child and it never really really gone away. As a young kid, my fantasies of bondage and torture was like tied to, I feel so miserable that those things actually gave me some sort of escapism and release.

I also notice, the more depressed or in deep grief that I am in, the more pleasure I get from pain. I almost understand people who cut themselves and I am actually lousy with pain to be able to take that, I cry even over a injection or ant bite, that type of sissy. But all I can say is, the happier I feel, the less pain I can take. When I am in a deep dark place, pain relieves my emotional pain, and kind of gives me pleasure. But in a way where physical pain does not hurt anymore but simply turns into pure ecstasy. Like a drug.

In a way, that's what bdsm does for me, it's escapism from reality, for once just going through something, takes my mind off the real world and all the crushing worries and fear I am dealing with. It's just so enjoyable, it's like not a cure of depression, but when you're in that state and nothing cheers you up, a good bdsm play always just takes you away from those negative and fearful feelings temporarily.

I don't know if this is good or bad. It's probably bad. But for me, bdsm is stress relief, escapism and pleasure. I also enjoy the thought of being owned by someone. I like having a master, I like the whole idea of it. It turns me on thinking about it. I enjoy being used and abuse for a master's pleasure.

I think the only relevance of depression for me is truly only the level of pain I can take. When I am in a healthy and well mind, I can't take pain at all. Although I still enjoy light pain. It's really only during my super dark depressive modes where I welcome the more heavily inflicted pain, and can't feel the pain inflicted. It becomes more like a relaxing massage than pain inflicted.

You're not alone in that, Greta. I've heard many stories of people using bdsm pain as a cathartic release.

Yep Greta definatly not alone, I use pain from BDSM - S/m to help me process my other daily pain from the M.E. and Fibro

So the big question is, what does that mean?
If whether you enjoy pain or not is completely reliant on the state of your mind?

To be honest, for me if i enjoy pain or not is secondary to if my owner enjoys me taking it, suffering with grace is more my area as such.

But pain for pains sake, some days i enjoy it others i hate it though a lot depends on my body, some days being stroked feels like my skin is on fire

Master has seen this symptom , and quite often, you are basically re-programme the mind by introducing a painful diversion.

Master wonders if your depression starts to lift when you start to inter react with another, this Master uses many relaxation techniques, some hypnotic methodology, use of aromatic infusion, and develops a relaxed state before any session, Master will invest the necessary time to acquire this state of mind.

Can you lift your depression somewhat similar.

Indeed your brain is exchanging one type of pain for another, the introduced pain is more stimulating, often greater in strength, thus pleasures the brain, but the pain is still pain.

Often emotional pain far exceeds physical pain, it can be said that pain is often perception, not really a sensation, the same way that vision and hearing is.

Pain can be a complex perception that takes place only in the higher levels of the central nervous system.

Most certainly , a stress relief,
quote:

bdsm is stress relief

But stress is better dealt with before a session, also for safety benefits , but the mind can not handle BDSM and stress conjointly.

Greta,

Quite often that is the mindset of cutters.   The much less destructive masochism is a good release.

I think its fine.

This can be a beautiful experience for a sub woman, if the owner is worthy of the sub woman, this Master has a tough well equiped Dungeon, yet can often not believe what some men write , Doms and Masters , they treat women so badly, beyond belief, to be owned by a worthy owner , is truly a marvelous experience, and can result in long term ownership, on rare occassion, a lifetime.

A good Master will certainly use you and take his pleasure , but will focus on what you need or indeed seek to give, a good Master will convince you that he is the Devil himself, this Master calls this theatre, very important to enhance experiences, in particular pain, exagerate that pain as often , it seems greater than the body can take. that can be exciting.
Done correctly, it certainly is.

This is what a Master must identify, these moods and mood swings, they can be dramatic, even ovulating can effect mood swings, often a greater sexual appetite, it varies from women to women, but this Master would agree that a deep dark depression at a commencement of a session, would develop a need for a greater degree of a more serious activity, but this Master would never session, unless his female slave was free of the depressive condition, Master is aware often that myelinated fibrers that send electrical charges along the spinal cord, the dorsal horn is extremely complex and not really fully understood, often refered to as the pain gate, but the brain dealing with depression can not deal so efficiently in this area, it will choose a direction, usually the depression is weaker and that experience is overtaken, Master will say diluted, but Master will not risk a failed session, he realxes and removes stress and depression before hand, then commences a session.

Master will add, his slaves are known to him over many years, these are not the clinical depressions, that some experience on this topic, these are the common depressions, that the stress of life often causes.
