I am wanting a steel/cast iron (which ever is cheaper) 5 foot wide 7 foot long bed, with a tribal type headboard also made of metal and mimicked at the bottom in a scale fashion with bindings at each of the four points and four more in the middle of the bed (two in the center of the headboard/two in the center of the foot board). The headboard design would be something like this: [image][/image] but obviously price and ease are a factor so the actual design while i would like input could mostly be left up to whoever could possibly do this. I realise this would not be cheap but i am working on a very tight budget and any price quoted to me would have to be considered very seriously before i could possibly even begin to think about actually having the bed made. If you're on a "tight budget", there's no way you're going to be able to afford a one-off design like this. Cast Iron? Forget about it. VERY basic, steel bed frames with head/footboards will easily run you around $1000. With the level of fabrication your design would require, I would be incredibly surprised if anyone would quote it out for less than $3k.

As Stef said,FORGET cast iron.With a design like that with those small lines it will be too easily broken,not easily cast,plus heavy.I am not sure where you live,but more and more machine shops especially in larger cities are using computer aided cutters on regular mild steel.But even this will not be cheap.A quick seach on Google searching under computer aided metal cutting,lazer cutting or plasma cutting should turn up a world of possible businesses that can help.

when I moved I was looking to buy a "kink" bed. The cheapest I found already pre-made was a little over $1000. When I looked into having one made it was almost twice as much and that was for a simple heavy wood or iron bars with no pattern. I highly doubt you'll find one on a budget, especially for what you describe. I ended up just buying a simple heavy iron bed online and putting it together myself. Good luck.
