Sugar is rough enough? I was wondering if they still made that apricot scrub... olive oil! Plenty of that in the house...

Thanks, ladies!

While there are upper body exercises designed for the kbell, it's primarily a lower body exercise. When I teach it, I spend a lot of time getting people to stop using their arms, their upper body, when performing the basic swing.

I have a partial tear in my rotator cuff... right arm. Not sure the kbells would work out well for me. Any other suggestions?

That's the one injury I've never had, so it's hard for me to say. But with the basic two hand swing, your arms are limp, and their only use is to hold the kbells. The movement is done as fast as possible, with as much of a snap as you can generate with your hips. So the kbell, on iis upward arc, is being moved by momentum, not by your arms or upper body. If you can raise your arms to chest height, you should be fine.

This has turned out to be a great thread.. despite a few interruptions. Thanks for starting it!

Thanks Lazarus. Will ask PT and give it a try. [:D]

Yep. Sugar is plenty rough enough (it is a crystal similar to salt, it just won't sting if it hits an open wound). Just scoop some out of the jar and massage onto the area you want to exfoliate.

I am very intrigued by these kettlebells. My body is asymmetrical due to my birth defect, is there a way of compensating so the weaker side gets an extra boost?

I use a sugar scrub that I make at home for exfoliating.

Get a jar with a lid and put in about 1/2 cup of plain, granulated white sugar. Add cheap olive oil until the sugar is covered. If you like scents, you can add eucalyptus, mint, lavendar, etc. essential oils (1-2 drops). I keep it in the shower and scrub my legs before and after shaving (before to help lift the hairs and after more for the moisturizing benefits). The oil leaves my legs smooth and silky after the shave.

I use sugar instead of salt in case I nick myself with the razor.

Gonna try that tonight. [;)]

Use the cheap olive oil. No point in paying for extra virgin for this purpose.

this is a great idea ^_^ i get walmart's brand of apricot scrub, but i like the idea of making stuff myself. i also have some seacret salt scrub that my brother got me that's super nice -- i think i'll add some oil to it; i really like coconut oil for just about everything.

oh and p.s. for dry skin -- try shea butter, or something with shea butter in it. it's amazering stuff. ^_^

They've flourished in Russia for decades, and with the MMA explosion here in the US they became really popular. But what's holding them back from becoming mainstream is that they really do suck.

Oh now now..........kettlebells ROCK! My gym doesn't have them and besides, when I am there I am usually either on the elliptical (great piece of equipment if you have joint problems, knees or hips) or in the yoga studio.

I keep my kettle bell (which I found at Walmart for less that $20.00) sitting on the dining room table. I can grab it and give it a whirl while watching tv or in between whatever. I highly recommend them. Then again, I VERY highly recommend yoga. Since I began yoga I feel better than I have in quite a few years. Seriously.

That reminds me that I need to pick up some more coconut oil for cooking.

I love using coconut oil, but it isn't warm enough in my bathroom (generally) to keep it a liquid.

Also Burt's Bees has a body butter that has the faint scent of honey and it is fabulous. I put it on after my shower and don't have any itchy dry skin stuff. Their lip balm is also the best I have ever used, bar none.

Gentlemen, I want to point out that men and women are skeletally different, so the positions for the same exercises sometimes have to be tweaked.

No, I don't know of a single exercise that needs to be changed to accomodate women. This is an excuse to do easier variations of exercises, and is one reason why women tend to get inferior results in the gym compared to men.

She wants a rounder butt. The only way to get a butt like that is to gain posterior muscle mass whilst staying not too lean and not too fat. Doing lame exercises with pink dumbbells or yoga in water is not going to build glute muscle. High intensity weight training does in conjuction with a high protein, caloric surplus diet.

I'm sorry if this contradicts Cosmo magazine but this is the truth. I'm not interested in posting happy feel-good stuff.

Actually this confirms what my PT has always said and what he has had me (and other women under him) doing.

Also you have to sign a contract confirming that you will follow the dietry regime set out for your goals.....AND also to agree the exact type of sessions, and how often you will be attending.

In the group of females that started with me, one by one, they all dropped away when they refused to be *pushed* to up their weights.

Although there were only a few of us girls, we worked alongside the men and did the exact same exercises in exactly the same way.

As a yoga teacher, I definitely see differences in men and women. When I get a mixed gender and fitness level class, I offer several variations of certain poses, taking into account flexibility and stamina.

Agirl, I know what you are saying about becoming dependent on one treatment or the other. However, it certainly is confidence boosting now, and maybe that is enough. I am not saying I am going to be still doing it when I am 70.

Yes, I waver betweenthat, and thinking *Well, does it matter if I feel just a bit yeeeeehah for now?* .......lol

that's the only annoying thing about it. =p i use it in my hair, but i won't over the winter because it goes solid in your hair, too. =p well, i might use it mixed with something else.
(my hair routines are kind of elaborate and complex hahaha =p)

it seems to do fine for me, as long as it's mixed with something else that can resist; if it does try to go solid again, usually shaking it up will cause the mix to remain liquid. i like to mix it with grapeseed and avocado oil, or jojoba oil. i also have a bunch of it in my shea butter mixes.

i have one mix that's shea-based, and another that's kpangan butter-based, but i think i'm going to mix them together and just make it "all-purpose" -- skin and hair in one jar. hahaha =p

I love the Honey lip balm, the regular has a comfrey scent that I just dont care for. I will try the cream, I love lots of their stuff. I have a little dealio of sample sizes, and some stuff is great, some just Not For Me. The coconut foot cream is good and I love the lemon cuticle cream (great for me who hates the feel of lotion!)

It really floors me when folks will not just go for it when they are working out, regardless of the technique. Why bother, if you're not going to do it to your fullest capacity? That might not mean you can do everything like the youngster, but keep pushing for one more.
