Collarme has a large number of members who are Pagans of one type or another. For all of you, especially for them, here you go.

Brightest Blessings on you all!

On this night, the veil between this world and the next grows thin. The spirits of those who came before us are near, and they hear us when we call upon them. All part of the endless cycle, life and death walk hand in hand, side by side. Without one, we cannot have the other. As light begins to fade, we embrace the dark part of the year, knowing that without the darkness, the light is meaningless. Take time to reflect on what this new year means to you, and what it meant to those we call the Ancient Ones. May your ancestors look upon you proudly as you honor them tonight.

A Traditional Samhain Bllessing.

May the ancestors deliver blessings on you and yours...
May the new year bear great fruits for you...
May your granted wishes be as many as the seeds in a pomegranate...
May the slide into darkness bring you light...
May the memories of what has been keep you strong for what is to be...
May this Samhain cleanse your heart, your soul, and your mind!

I believe in Ireland they consider Feb 1 st to be the first day of spring.
And there's a tradition of hanging out St. Bridgit's crosses outside lighted on the eve of Jan 31st till the next morning.
And the ancient Druids carved turnips and put glowing pieces of coal in them to remind them of their dead ancesters on Samhain thousands of years before Christ or the catholic church.
Their religion was very similar to the native American Indians, worshiping sky and earth.
I wonder why when you hear native American flute music and Irish flute music they sound so much alike? ; )

Happy Samhain everyone!

I tried making my Samhain Baked Apples. Didn't work out too well.

I will be lighting a candle though and leaving it in the window tonight.

Also a few snacks on the porch for any passerby. ;)

Just spotted this and figured it was worth sharing....

Oct 31, 840 A.D.

All Hallows Eve. What once served as a spooky New Years Eve tradition for the ancient Celts (which they called Samhain) was ultimately appropriated by Pope Gregory IV in 840 AD to serve as the daylong vigil preceding the Feast of All Saints. Even so, the Christians preserved the pagan festival's spooky trappings anyway. Cunning bastards.
