OP:
While surgery may be an "exact science," recovery times are highly variant both on the procedure, the patient and sometimes...good (or bad) luck.  In the best case scenario, the patient follows all aftercare guidelines to the letter, no infection occurs and the body heals according to the projected timeline, which I would imagine is based upon similar surgeries and patients with similar backgrounds.  Unfortunately, sometimes even when the person follows all instructions and doesn't do anything "wrong", well..... shit happens.  Infections can occur, complications can develop, the body can simply take longer to heal.

I had a major surgery just one week apart from my best friend who had the same surgery.  I took a lot longer to recover than he did for the initial recovery.  5 months down the road, I was fully recovered--he developed an infection and subsequent complication.

Any recovery projection is just that--your body may have its own healing timetable.  If you don't believe you're making progress or you have concerns (which it sounds like you do) your best bet is to discuss with the surgeon who operated, and find a good Physical Therapist who can give you his/her opinion on how soon you'll be back to work.

good luck!

When I fell down a few months ago, it damaged my left upper arm and shoulder.  I had to do 2 months of therapy so I can use my left arm again.  Mom and I thought it was a possible broken humerus but luckily it was a very deep bruise.  I quit therapy a week early so I can take a trip.  I have one piece of equipment that I can use to continue the workout but I have not used it at all.

Everyone heals differently.  I still have a bone spur in my left foot but it does not bother me.  I have a clump of nerves in my lower right back that flares up if I walk too far or stand too long.  That sucker drives me nuts.  I also have a slipped rib that loves to slip between my shoulder blade and spine.

I learned to live with what is happening to me.  I take the motorized shopping cart when I go shopping at Walmart and Sams.  The door greeters get them ready for me when they see me coming.  At times my rib will slip while I am crocheting.  I put my chair against the bar and maneuver myself to where the rib slips back in place.

I have to make an appointment with my doctor soon.  I am running out of my Vicodin and I have to take that once a day just to move about...

Oh yea...I deal with fibromyalgia also.  I hate getting up in the cold mornings...
